BLACKJACK FEATURING BRUCE KULICK REISSUES COMING

Before joining Kiss in 1984, BRUCE KULICK (ex-KISS) was the guitarist in a band called BLACKJACK, which were active from 1979-1980 and fronted by Michael Bolotin (soon-to-be MICHAEL BOLTON!).

The band released two albums via Polydor Records: 1979's Blackjack and 1908's Worlds Apart. Both are being reissued by Universal Music Japan on December 18th as cardboard mini-sleeves. Rounding off the four-piece was Sandy Gennaro on drums, and Jimmy Haslip on bass.

Information from CD Japan: Cardboard sleeve reissue features the high-fidelity SHM-CD format (compatible with standard CD players).

Of course the biggest news from the night was that Ace Frehley and Peter Criss came to the event. I knew both were coming but I had no idea both would play, together no less! There has been some friction between the two over recent years (read Peter’s book), but I found out today that the two said they wanted to jam and reconnect out of respect to me and our friendship and the spirit of the night. So for the first time in 13 years Ace and Peter reconnected, laughed, and jammed! It was EPIC and the electricity in the room when they came out was incredible.

If there really is no rest for the wicked, then Gene Simmons must be a very bad man. The pyro from Kiss’ last tour has barely fizzled out, but Simmons is already gearing up for 2014. Among the many things on the band’s agenda for the next 12 months are an official Kiss movie, a UK tour, Paul Stanley’s autobiography and even the band’s own American Football team. Gene recently dropped by the Classic Rock office to talk about the band’s plans, his never-ending quest to make money – and those ‘wig’ rumours.

The new official Kiss biography film, You Wanted The Best You Got The Best, is currently being made with director Alan G Parker of Hello Quo! fame. Why has it taken until now to make it?
It’s all about the filmmaker. We wanted to find someone with an honest voice, because what you’re doing is placing your child into someone else’s hands. Alan not only has a Kiss tattoo on his body, he also has an authentic vibe about him. His approach was that the movie had to include everything, and not just what Paul and Gene wanted. It certainly won’t be sugar-coated. We will not interfere – at all.

Mitch did a little 'email' interview with Alan G Parker - better known to us KISS geeks as the man bringing our 'heroes' to the big screen in the forthcoming official Kiss movie You Wanted The Best… You Got The Best.

1) How did you become a KISS fan and what has the band meant to you throughout your life?
I was introduced to KISS by a kid in the year above me at school, he played us the 'Love Gun' album in the school record room and I can honestly say that album changed everything for me... Because I lived in a small town I went to buy it on the weekend and they had no stock! So I finished up with 'Alive 2'... Which is still one of my favourite albums until this day... What they mean to me in life is largely that they are a constant, a lot of things in life come and go... But some things you can rely on...

2) Vinnie Vincent, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss will not sit down with you for the movie. If they had, what would you have asked them, or at least, what would you like to have found out about them?
The thing about being in a very sucsessful rock band, at the top of it's game, is that every question you could possibly be asked has been asked already... So I knew we could always count on archive... Regarding Vinnie I never thought about putting him into the movie for one minute so far as a new interview goes... I know where he fits, and we have the footage... At the start I thought that both Ace & Peter would jump through a hoop of fire just to be in the movie, to put their side of the story forward... But after offering them both very good money for very little work it became obvious that just maybe a few of the thing I had heard might be true... All ten members of KISS will feature in the movie though...
