DUTCH KISS EXPO REVIEW
(from Rockheads Kiss Weblog)

Yesterday we went to the KISS Expo in Holland with KISS-drummer Eric Singer as a special guest!
Finally since years there was a expo organised in our country and when we arrived there where a lot of people waiting in line.
We had VIP tickets, so we got in earlier and we got to meet Eric first.

When we meet Eric, he was in a great mood and he would sign everything you wanted. He signed our Meet & Greet photo's and VIP Pass.

After the Meet & Greet we went to see all the merchandise that was for sale, there was a lot, from vintage to new items. KISSonline was there who sold a lot of cool stuff. We talked to a lot of fans and I got a lot of compliments about my KISS blog and that's always great to hear and I appreciate it!

Around 4 PM it was time for the Q&A with Eric, he told us that the band has recording 13 tracks for the new Monster album! Also there'll be a Monster book been released, a special edition for each country! After the release of the new album there'll be a would tour that will go on till 2013 and they'll have a brand new show and costumes. Eric wouldn't reveale any more songtitels (only the ones we know) or a release date for Monster...

After the Q&A was over it was time to go out for dinner and when we got back tribute band KISS on the Rocks end this great KISS expo with a cool show.
We had a great day and we're looking forward to the next KISS expo!

ACCIDENT FORCES ACE FREHLEY TO CANCEL UK TOUR DATES

(from acefrehley.com)
Ace Frehley has been forced to cancel his three upcoming UK tour dates due to a fractured left wrist resulting from a fall in his home yesterday. Doctors applied a fiberglass cast to Frehley’s hand and arm, and he has been instructed not to play guitar or use his wrist for a minimum of ten days. Ace would like to convey his deepest heartfelt apologies to all of his UK fans and to make it up to them, has already signed on to headline Hard Rock Hell 2012 next December. He hopes to be able to announce the additional rescheduled dates soon.

KISS EXPO HELSINKI REPORT

(from sakke73/Kiss Forum)
We had the third annual Kiss Expo here yesterday in Helsinki and the special Guests were Bob and Bruce Kulick, John Corabi, Gordon Gebert and KISS
FOREVER band. The most interesting person in my opinion was Bob Kulick who was in Europe for the first time since 1996.
There were 400 fans attending the expo and sellers from Sweden and Finland.
Here are some videos, the first one Bob and Bruce are telling about Killers and Creatures sessions and the death of Eric Carr and how the band reacted for that and their future plans.

GOOGLE STREET VIEW SHOWS "DRESSED TO KILL" ALBUM COVER LOCATION

(from mail online)
Google Street View has proven itself to be a handy tool - it can be used for everything from scouting out a travel destination to simply seeing if a restaurant or bar is worth visiting.
Now there's a new use for the feature: music lovers can track down their favourite album cover locations.

Sean Yeaton from vice.com painstakingly looked up the locations of ten iconic album covers, matching the orientation of each with the best images Street View could provide. He admitted it was a bit geeky but said it could also be very rewarding.

Some were easy to find - after all, there are heavy clues about where to look in the titles of the Beatles album Abbey Road, or Eric Clapton's 461 Ocean Boulevard.
Others, such as Neil Young's After The Gold Rush, are a little harder to track down.

Dressed To Kill, Kiss

Anyone walking along 8th Avenue in New York City might get a sudden jarring feeling that they are being watched by some slightly leery goons in face paint and ill-fitting suits.
That's because the corner of 23rd Street and 8th is the location for Kiss's third studio album cover.
The idea originally came from a photoshoot for Creem magazine - depicting Kiss as superheroes, who would eventually swoop down to save an audience from the perceived 'horrors' of a John Denver concert.

One picture required the band to dress in their mild-mannered 'Clark Kent' suits, and photographer Bob Gruen took this picture as they were heading back to their car from the studio.

HOLLAND EXPO INFOS
The Kiss Expo in Holland with Eric Singer will take place this Sunday. Here are some infos from the promoter:

Timeplanning Kiss expo

We’ve had many questions on the exact dayplanning for the expo this Sunday, in ATAK Enschede. Here it is…

14.00 hrs Doors open for VIP’s only
Eric will meet the VIP’s first, starting right after VIP’s enter the venue.
15.00 hrs General admission
15.30 hrs Q&A Eric Singer (* see below)
16.15 hrs Make up contest hosted by Eric Singer (** see below)
17.00 hrs Meet & Greet for General admission ticket holders (*** see below)
20.30 hrs Kiss on the Rocks in concert

Timeschedule subject to change

Q&A Eric Singer *:

You can still hand in your questions for Eric. Send an e-mail with your question to: eric@kissontherocks.com with your name and your question

Make-up contest **:

Eric looks forward seeing all of you in make up. For the best looking Kiss outfits/make up there will be prices by Kissonline. Best looking kid, best looking catman, best looking girl, make sure you’re there and we can spot you!
Please note: friends of Kiss on the Rocks and tribute bands / professional impersonators will not be able to join in the contest.

Meet & Greet ***:

Due to the high turn-out (only few tickets left) we will be forced to do an efficient meet & greet with Eric. Please understand Eric will not be able to sign multiple items (just one item per person). He wants to meet all of you, but with over 400 people there, we will have to keep this efficient to ensure everyone gets their autograph. Please work with the organization to make this a party for all. Everyone will be getting a wristband which will be removed after meeting Eric and getting your autograph. VIP pass holders will also receive a VIP laminate.

We have a surprise after the tribute bands gets on stage, so make sure you will stay until the end. That shouldn’t be a problem after all: we have dealers from all over Europe and the USA, and will be showing some great Kiss footage on DVD. Kiss on the Rocks has some special surprises as well.

This is going to be fun!

REMEMBERING ERIC CARR
20 years ago today Eric Carr passed away due to cancer. He will always be rememberd in the hearts of the fans. Kiss made this official statement on Kissonline:

Twenty years ago today, our friend Eric Carr passed away after losing his battle with cancer. Over the eleven years Eric spent with KISS, he played over 800 concerts to millions of fans around the world, and he brought joy to and touched the lives of so many people. Here are some thoughts and memories that the band would like to share.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At a time when KISS was in the midst of upheaval and turmoil Eric brought calm, and an optimism that refocused our priorities so we could move forward. I can't overstate his contribution to our rebirth. His dedication to his music was only matched by his dedication to his fans. He was a kind soul who couldn't say an unkind word about anyone and I think of him all the time.

- Paul Stanley
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eric Carr was a beloved member of KISS for 11 years. His drumming was as powerful as his love and devotion for the fans and remains in the hearts of many to this day...

- Eric Singer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eric Carr was a special person and a friend. He would always go out of his way to be friendly and say something nice. I remember the band was mixing Hot in the Shade back in 1989 at Cherokee Studios in LA. HITS was a miss-mash of sorts and everyone was throwing in their two cents on the mix, you know, 'Turn up the guitars, turn up the bass.." I was listening and remember saying to the engineer, "Where's the drums?" At the end of the night, Eric quietly pulled me aside and said, "Thanks for mentioning the drums.." He appreciated that.. A good guy.

- Tommy Thayer
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I never knew anyone more humble in my life.
Eric Carr was a kind soul who never said anything bad about anybody.
He was also a double threat on drums, and vocals.
I miss him.

- Gene Simmons

KISS SHRINE INTERFERES WITH VERIZON SERVICE
(from fox16.com/Josh Rosenthal)
LITTLE ROCK, AR - Stacie "Mack" McIntosh is not your typical stylist. This is not your typical salon.

About one year ago, two of Mack's friends gave her a shrine dedicated to the band KISS as a gift. It sits in her salon and is about the size of an old-fashioned arcade game, covered in KISS pictures and memorabilia. The shrine's centerpiece is a mock KISS stage, complete with a light show.

Mack says her friends gave it to her, "because we all love KISS, they loved me, and it was a way for them to take their memorabilia and let the world share in all of our love for KISS."

Just one problem: Verizon says the shrine is interfering with their signal. They issued a statement, saying in part: "the interference is minimal and localized ... the device interferes with the spectrum for which we are licensed." Verizon wants Mack to get rid of the machine or at least leave it unplugged.

ACE FREHLEY'S WILD ROCKET RIDE

(from Houston Press/Bob Ruggiero)
Even by standards of '70s hard rock excess, original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley was out of this world. In this breezy, buzzy, and debauched memoir, The Spaceman takes readers on a rocket ride through his ups and downs with his bandmates, musical career, private life, and booze-and-drug binges that would make the guys in Mötley Crüe beg for a day to recover.

Born Paul Frehley -- the nickname "Ace" stemmed from his success in finding girls for he and his buddies -- the teen was the classic stereotype of the long-haired, drinking-and-drugging-and-fucking musical aspirant, and flitted through a series of bands while attending as many shows -- and sometimes sneaking backstage -- as he could.

ACE FREHLEY'S KISS MEMORIES LEAVE HIM WITH "NO REGRETS
"
(from The Boston Globe/Sarah Rodman)
WHO: Ace Frehley
WHAT: As the original lead guitarist for KISS, Ace Frehley galvanized the KISS army with his riffs and solos on hits such as “Rock and Roll All Nite’’ and “Shout It Out Loud’’ and his “Spaceman’’ persona and makeup. Frehley left KISS in 1982 but returned for several tours - including a “farewell’’ jaunt - before quitting permanently in 2001. The guitarist chronicles his “KISStory’’ as well as his gritty childhood in the Bronx, his solo career, and his years-long struggle with substance abuse in his new memoir, “No Regrets’’ (Gallery Books), which is out now.

Q. Whose idea was it to write “No Regrets’’?
A. People have been after me for years to write a book. Everybody kept saying [KISS bassist-singer Gene Simmons has] put out book after book, and we’re only hearing one side of the story. Once I got sober and my memory started clearing up, I figured it was about time I let everybody hear the other side of the story.

(from Noisecreep)
In a small rehearsal space on the fringes of North Hollywood, a band is working hard. Feeling their way several times through the Bo Diddley staple, 'Road Runner,' they're finally getting comfortable with each other. Then the band's leader decides to crack the whip.

She stops the band and issues a few orders. "You, come in harder after the first verse," she tells one of the two drummers. "And you," she tells the singer, "I want you to start singing up around here," before hitting the note she wants him to tackle.

ACE FREHLEY AND TONY IOMMI CRACK NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLERS BOOK CHART
(from ultimateclassicrock.com/Joe Robinson)

It wasn’t even close. Both Ace Frehley and Tony Iommi made the latest New York Times Hardcover Nonfiction Best Sellers list, but the former Kiss guitarist enjoyed a comfortable lead over the Black Sabbath axe-man in the battle of the hard rockers vying for supremacy on the tally.

Frehley’s ‘No Regrets: A Rock ‘N’ Roll Memoir’ landed at an impressive No. 10 in its first week out, while Iommi’s ‘Iron Man: My Journey Through Heaven And Hell With Black Sabbath’ squeaked in at No. 35.

MESSAGE FROM BRUCE KULICK
(from kulick.net)

As you all know, after my journeys to NYC and Brazil it was time to jump right into Rock 'N' Roll Fantasy Camp. Always fun, this one was particularly exciting because of two factors. First, the Playboy Mansion was where the big event night for the final performances would be held. Second, naturally for me to have Paul Stanley as the headline guest has its significance. I always enjoy jamming and seeing him, and my campers were especially excited as we prepared a medley of KISS hits, along with a Van Halen tune.

GENE SIMMONS TELLS MUSIC-NEWS.COM WHY AXL ROSE DESERVES A GOOD BEATING
(from music-news.com)
Kiss frontman, entrepreneur, singer-songwriter, actor, bassist and self-confessed sex addict gave Music-News.com the pleasure of his company to let us know what is currently flicking his switch.

During the interview, when questioned about what advice he would offer Guns 'n' Roses with respect to staying at the top of their game the rock icon concluded:
'You get to sleep in the bed you make.'
'Guns and Roses could have been the best band in the world and the reason they're not is because of Axl Rose.'
'Drugs, heroin, alcohol and all that but ultimately it falls on Axl Rose's shoulders.'
What could he have done to change that path?
'A good beating would have helped.'
"When you misbehaved as a little kid there's someone therew to give you a what for. Then when you become a grown-up who's there to set you straight?"
Check out the full interview here: (skip to around 4:50 for the Gun N' Roses comments).

PAUL ROCKS FANTASY CAMP AT PLAYBOY MANSON
(from Kissonline)
Paul Stanley returned to Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp last night in an amazing event held at the famous Playboy Mansion! This incredible camp offered fans the opportunity to learn from and jam with their favorite musicians. During the party, Paul joined each of the camp's ten bands on stage. He played guitar with all of the bands, singing no vocals but having a great time rocking.

The atmosphere at the Playboy Mansion was rocking too! There were beautiful girls everywhere -- Playboy bunnies were dancing both on and off the stage all night, swimming in the grotto and mingling with guests. Many celebrities were in attendance too, including Rick Schroeder, Corey Feldman, Crispin Glover, Phil Collen and Ron Jeremy. Each of the fan bands had a celebrity musician as their camp counselor, and any rock fan will be familiar with them: Lita Ford, Kip Winger, Chris Slade, Mark Hudson, Phil Soussan, Billy Sheehan, Rudy Sarzo, Teddy "Zig Zag" Andreadis, and our friend Bruce Kulick.

When Bruce's band "Electric Angel" (that he was the counselor of) took the stage, Paul played an entire set with them, which included "Deuce," "Ain't Talkin 'Bout Love," and "Shout it Out Loud."

At the end of the night, many of the camp counselors jammed in an all-star band! Eric Singer joined them on stage and played drums for "Baby You Can Drive My Car," "School's Out" and "Rock and Roll All Nite." He also had a reunion of sorts with Lita Ford for "Close my Eyes Forever" (Eric's first job as a touring drummer was with Lita's band in 1984!)

Bruce Kulick plans to write a full story about the entire experience, so we'll keep you posted when that goes live.
See photos from the event here.
Here you can see a photo of Paul & Bruce.

PAUL STANLEY OPENS UP ABOUT VOICE TROUBLES
(from contactmusic.com)
Kiss frontman Paul Stanley has put his recent voice troubles down to singing "through sheer willpower" to "cram in" as many shows as possible.

The singer underwent surgery on his vocal cords last month (Oct11) for a recurrent problem with his throat which left his voice "cracking".

The 59-year-old rocker admits 40 years of performing with Kiss left him struggling to sing, and he worked his voice too hard as the band attempted to fit in as many concerts as possible.

He tells the Hollywood Reporter, "(I was singing) through sheer willpower... (to) cram in as many shows as possible to maximise profit... The nature of rock singing is a strain on the voice and when you compound that with that amount of shows, you're not giving yourself time to recuperate and the problem is compounded... I was finding myself working harder and harder to do what was once effortless, and having already passed through puberty, I was surprised to hear my voice cracking."

Stanley is also convinced many stars ruin their vocal cords by partying too hard, adding, "If you're going to mix alcohol, cigarettes and drugs with singing, you've got a combustible combination that can only get you in trouble.

"When I was starring in Phantom of the Opera, I found I couldn't drink a glass of wine the night before because it affected my vocal cords the next night, so people who are staying up till all hours, snorting this, smoking that and drinking the other, turn over the sand timer and when the sand runs out, your number comes up."

ACE FREHLEY INTERVIEW: KISS GUITARIST HAS "NO REGRETS"
Here is an excerpt from an interview with Ace on azcentral.com:

Q: Are there stories in the book that made you think, "I don't know, maybe I should leave this out?"
A: Well, there are several stories I left out. I have so many stories, I could write three books. I picked some of the best stories and so far, the response has been really good. I just hit No. 10 on the best-sellers list one week out. So I'm excited.

Q: That's great. Is that better than you expected?
A: Yeah, actually, it is. I never did a book before, so I didn't have anything to gauge it by. So first week out, No. 10 on the New York Times best-seller list, that's pretty awesome. For anybody. Even an established author.

Q: So did you quit the band or were you fired?
A: I quit the band twice. In 1983 and again in 2001.

Q: I saw an interview with you on the "Today" show and you were talking about how you had lunch with Gene and you kind of wanted to wipe the slate clean and move forward. I was wondering what you meant by move forward. Would you rejoin KISS?
A: No. It's something for my sobriety. He had called me a few times and approached me to do his television show and I pretty much ignored him. After all we've been through, good and bad, I just thought it was time to clear the air and let him know that I'm solid. I apologized to him about certain things I did in the past. It was something I actually did more for me than for him (laughs). It wasn't an apology, per se. I just told him, you know, "Maybe things would've been different if I wasn't so loaded." But you know, I had to move on and hopefully, he realizes why. I go into it in-depth in the book.

KISS TO RELEASE "DESTROYER" DELUXE EDITION WITH ORIGINAL COVER ART
(from Ultimate Classic Rock/Matthew Wilkening)

Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has revealed that producer Bob Ezrin is currently remixing the band’s legendary 1976 album ‘Destroyer’ for re-issue in “Deluxe Edition” form sometime in 2012, complete with unreleased tracks and re-instating the original label-rejected cover art as displayed above.

There’s no word on what new songs will be included, but Simmons told Planet Rock that the band’s upcoming new album ‘Monster’ harkens back to the classic ‘Destroyer’ sound, and that the new record will be joined in record stores by a 10-hour DVD (possibly taking the place of ‘Kissology IV?’) and a four-foot high, three-foot wide book.

Artist Ken Kelly, who did both the rejected and the eventually used versions of the ‘Destroyer’ art, as well as the band’s ‘Love Gun’ cover, explains below why the record label didn’t want to use his original version of the art.

WHY ARE SO MANY SINGERS HAVING SURGERY?
(from The Hollywood Reporter/Shirley Halperin)

Many singers go decades without properly maintaining their instrument (primarily, rest, proper diet and vocal warmups), which Nasseri likens to “to “tuning up a Lamborghini.” Paul Stanley of Kiss, who had surgery Oct. 26 to “tweak” blood vessels in his vocal cords, says he powered through four decades of concerts “through sheer willpower” so the band could “cram in as many shows as possible to maximize profit.” But, he cautions, “the nature of rock singing is a strain on the voice and when you compound that with that amount of shows, you're not giving yourself time to recuperate and the problem is compounded… I was finding myself working harder and harder to do what was once effortless, and having already passed through puberty, I was surprised to hear my voice cracking.”

Throw in cigarettes and alcohol (two of Adele’s well-documented vices), late-night meals, heavy travel and a five-nights-on, one-night-off itinerary -- up from the more sane two-on, one-off, says Nasseri -- and you have a recipe for damage that could cancel the rest of a tour. “If you're going to mix alcohol, cigarettes and drugs with singing, you've got a combustible combination that can only get you in trouble,” says Stanley of his experience. “When I was starring in Phantom of the Opera, I found I couldn't drink a glass of wine the night before because it affected my vocal cords the next night, so people who are staying up till all hours, snorting this, smoking that and drinking the other, turn over the sand timer and when the sand runs out, your number comes up.”

ACE FREHLEY ALLENTOWN CONCERT REVIEW

(from Weekender/Alan K. Stout)
ALLENTOWN - When Ace Frehley took the stage at Crocodile Rock in Allentown on Sunday, Nov. 6, there were a few things the crowd was expecting and, during the show, it got.

A driving performance of “Rocket Ride” and an explosive performance of “Shock Me” each came in the set, and “Shock Me” included a scorching solo and Frehley’s trademark “smoking guitar.” During the biographical “Rock Soldiers,” Frehley had the crowd singing along in anthem-like unison, and his fans sang along once again to a rhythmic rendition of  “New York Groove,” during which Frehley’s illuminated guitar bounced to the beat.

LIFE ON MARINER 4 - ACE FREHLEY RELATED ART BOOK

(from Chris)
Chris from Norway here. I have released a photo book where I have pictured my Ace Frehley Alive era action figure in a lot of different places. I've carried it along with me on tours and holidays since 2007.

Here is the book:

DID YOU KNOW...

... that there was an official Kiss leather jacket released in 1995? But people got offended by the middle finger on the back, so the design got changed soon after. The new design showed a fist on the back. The rare first version is listed on eBay right now.

KISS GOING RETRO FOR "MONSTER" RECORDING SESSIONS
(from Ultimate Classic Rock)

Kiss are turning back the clock for the recording of their new album, ‘Monster,’ which should be out by the summer of 2012. The band is bucking the trend of using digital recording gear, opting instead for the retro experience of old analog equipment and a stripped-down approach. In other words, don’t expect any outside writers, extra keyboards or superfluous children’s choruses this time around.

ACE FREHLEY ON "TALKING METAL" PODCAST
(from Talking Metal)

Here you can download and listen to the latest podcast of "Talking Metal"
.
This is the third hour of the Oct. 18, 2011 Talking Metal Live show.  We are joined by Ace Frehley.  During the interview with him we talk about his new book, future albums and DVD releases.

Here are some highlights from our interview with Ace.

On the new book which was co-written by Talking Metal host John “Ostronomy” Ostrosky:
“This book is about from the time I was a kid growing up in the Bronx, playing in bands prior to Kiss, going into the audition with Kiss, playing with Kiss, leaving Kiss, doing my own stuff, you know, Kiss was just a portion to my life.  It was a big portion but there are a lot of other peaces to the puzzle.”

On releasing new music:
“I have several songs in the can that didn’t make it on Anomaly that I have been doing some rewrites on and of course there is some new material I have been working on as well.  I am thinking about throwing together a live DVD.    There are also old tapes I have from the studio I had up in Connecticut that I had in the 70s that I haven’t pulled out in a long time so we’ll see what comes about in the Spring of next year hopefully.

When questioned further about the “old tapes” he said:
“I was thinking of releasing old jam sessions and songs that nobody’s ever heard, I haven’t even heard in a long time.  I have over 100 reels of 2 inch tape.  Eric Carr is probably in a few of them, the late Bobby Mayo who used to play with Peter Frampton, a couple of guys from Alice Cooper’s original band, Dennis Dunaway and Neil Smith, also I worked on tracks with Chris Kimsey the Rolling Stones’ producer, stuff with Eddie Krammer.  A lot of my stuff was edited out of the Elder and I have a lot of the original solos so that might be something interesting for Kiss fans.

On his recent lunch with Gene Simmons:
“Me and Gene decided to have lunch.  We had lunch at the Beverly Hills hotel in LA.  I read some of the comments and a lot of people are fantasizing this, that and the other thing but it was really just a friendly lunch to catch up.  I really had not met Gene face to face since I did the Rock Honors show.  I wanted him to see that I was clean and sober.  I mean you hear rumors or people say this guy is clean and sober but they only way to prove that is to meet someone face to face.”
