KISS ALIVE! 1975 - 2000 BOX SET
(from Kiss Kollector)
The KISS Alive! CD box, as released by the band’s former record company Universal Music, came out a little while ago. It’s a great 4-CD box in a wonderful package along with a beautiful 72 page booklet full of great photos from the band’s long history. Designed by t42 design’s Tom Jermann it’s one of the most beautiful KISS packages ever released. All three old Alive albums as released on a Universal label are part of the box, all having been remasterd and being put on a single disc, while the fourth disc is the unreleased Alive album that was supposed to come out in 2001 as Alive IV. Since the band released Alive IV on a different label a few years later, this fourth disc is fully titled Alive: The Millennium Concert. Check out the front cover of the box below, along with some pages from the booklet plus an extra sheet promoting some of Universal’s previous KISS releases as well as (on the other side of the sheet) Paul Stanley’s new solo album.

[note: The "Kiss Alive! Box set" is now available for just US $ 19,99 at Amazon.com, that is under 19 Euros including tax-free shipping to Europe]

GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS
(from Blabbermouth)
Variety.com reports that A&E has greenlit a second season of Gene Simmons' reality-TV show "Gene Simmons Family Jewels". The cable channel has begun production on 20 one-hour episodes for a premiere sometime in 2007.

A&E had ordered a 13-episode first season.

"Family Jewels" delivered an average 1.3 million viewers per episode. Show also improved its Monday-at-10 timeslot by 56% among adults 18-49 (766,000) and 45% among adults 25-54 (742,000) vs. the previous year.

Second-season antics — which will continue to revolve around Simmons, longtime girlfriend Shannon Tweed and their two kids — are sure to shock, Simmons told Daily Variety.

"People's jaws will drop," he said. Show's appeal is strong because "everyone wishes they had this family. Every guy wishes he was me. It shows how you can be happy."

The first 13-episode season of "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" will be released on double-DVD just in time for Christmas.

Simmons announced on his web site that "Gene Simmons Family Jewels"' first episode was the most-watched series premiere of any A&E show since the launch of "Dog the Bounty Hunter" in August of 2004. There have been 12 new prime-time series since that date.

GREAT EXPECTATIONS 2007
Here is a list of what Kiss fans can except in 2007:

January: DVD: Clip collection "Lick it up"

this one should have been released already earlier this year, but due to the many Kiss releases it was pushed back. The release date in Japan is set for January 31st, 2007. Release dates in other countries are still to be announced, but they should be no later than end of January.

Gene Simmons Rock School 2 on DVD (?)

The second season of "Rock School" should be available on DVD shortly...

ca. May: Kissology Vol.2 (1978 - 1992)

The second volume of  Kissology is expected for around May 2007. As Gene said, the second volume will be released within' 6-8 months.

Gene Simmons 150 Song "Monster" Box Set

Already back in 2004 Gene Simmons talked about his "Monster" Box Set containing 100 songs. In the meantime he is already talking about 150 songs. Two of them can be heard on the "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" Deluxe Edition DVD Box (see link to it above at the Amazon-Links). Sometime in 2007 this Box Set could be finally released....

Paul Stanley live DVD

The show was already taped, and if Paul decides to do some more solo-shows, the DVD hopefully will be released by then. Let's just hope it doesn't take forever like it took for "Rock the nation" to be released. Other bands already proved, that you can release a great DVD within' just a few weeks.

Kiss Tour 2007 (?)

If you do believe Paul Stanley and the rumours, Kiss will tour next year, possibly in a more original line-up. According to rumours, they could be doing a Co-Headline tour with bands such as Def Leppard or Queen. Most likely they will not get the idea to do a Headline-tour with a new album in original line-up with a new stage with new costumes and new effects...

Paul Stanley Solo Tour 2007 (?)

There is talk about Paul Stanley doing shows in Europe, such as the Sweden Rock Festival in the summer of 2007. Playing Festivals would be a great opportunity for Paul to come over to Europe and add some more club shows afterwards... as long as Kiss are not touring at that time.

Ace Frehley Solo CD (?)

Ace has been working on a new album for over 10 years now. According to rumours it should be finally finished and ready to be released. Let's hope...

Peter Criss Solo CD (?)

Also Peter has been working on his Solo Album for quite a few years already. He recently mentioned, that it is finally being released within' the next few months. OK...

Bruce Kulick Solo Album

Bruce also wants to do another album in 2007. Although you might be wondering whatever happened to his book he started writing some years ago, his solo album is the most likely to be really released next year.

ca. November: Kissology Vol.3 (1993 - 2007)

In time for X-mas next year, volume 3 of Kissology should hit the stores.

Kiss Alive IV

Although nobody has mentioned it yet, you can expect Kiss Alive IV - the Millennium concert - to be released also as a single disc later on. And it would not be surprising if it will contain extra Bonus material. It was done before with "Kiss Symphony" and it would be common business for a record company.

Gene Simmons Family Jewels 2 auf DVD (?)
The second season of "Gene Simmons Family Jewels" could also be released in 2007...

KISS FANS SMACKING LIPS OVER NEW SETS
(from www.suntimes.com)
BY GARY GRAFF
With the new ''Kissology: The Ultimate Kiss Collection Vol. 1 1974-1977'' riding high on Billboard's Top Music Video chart, Kiss' Gene Simmons promises there's more where that came from.
''We hope it's going to be a 10-volume set,'' Simmons says. ''Volume 2 is being worked on right now. I'm not allowed to talk too much about it, but [it will be released] in the next six months to eight months. We don't want to wait. This is a lot of fun. People are enjoying this. We're actually proud of it.''

The first ''Kissology'' features vintage concerts from San Francisco, Detroit, Tokyo, Houston and New York along with TV appearances, promotional videos and a documentary about Kiss Day in 1975 in Cadillac, Mich.

''Some of the stuff that tugs at my heart is the really, really early days,'' Simmons notes, ''the sort of innocence of it when you're exuberant and happy to be alive. You don't realize that the same band and the same guys would become dysfunctional, and that drugs and alcohol and egos and the rest of that would happen later on.''

Simmons says he and partner Paul Stanley have ''jealously guarded hundreds and hundreds of hours of material -- concerts, music videos, tapes, all kinds of background footage -- that nobody's ever seen'' until the right opportunity to release it came along. ''Kissology'' is the result of a synergistic agreement with the new VH1 Classic Records imprint.

''Essentially, they're in the infomercial business,'' Simmons explains, ''because what they're doing by putting product up there, videos and so on, is promoting material that people go out and buy. So we get a partner that's in the broadcast business every day, and they get new programming on the air -- and get to participate all the way down the line when the material is bought. It's win-win.''

Besides the continuing ''Kissology'' series, Simmons and Kiss have a number of other projects on tap. A ''Kiss Alive! 1975-2000'' box set -- featuring the group's first three live albums and its unreleased Millennium concert -- has just come out, and ''Kiss: Lick It Up,'' a box set from Kiss' non-makeup years (1983-96), is due in 2007.

Simmons is also gearing up for the DVD release of the first season of his A&E reality show ''Gene Simmons Family Jewels,'' whose extras will include a pair of songs from ''Monster,'' a 150-song boxed set of solo demos and unreleased material -- including collaborations with Bob Dylan, Aerosmith's Joe Perry and a fledgling Van Halen -- due next year.

''I have literally hundreds of songs that have never been recorded by Kiss, but I've demoed them all,'' Simmons says. He adds, "It'll come out when the time feels right''

Check out Kiss Surpreme to read the Paul Stanley interview in the new Classic Rock magazine. In Germany Paul gets ignored by most of the press since he cancelled all the German interviews. Both Metal Hammer and Metal Star have cancelled their scheduled Paul Stanley articles, because they didn't get an exclusive interview. There is a feature on Paul in "Breakout" and "Gitarre und Bass" though.

DOUG ALDRICH AUDITIONED FOR KISS
(from metal-rules.com)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you've also auditioned for KISS at early 80's, right?

True. That was when I was 18.

Wow, how was that audition?

It was weird, man!

What year was it?

It was "82" or "81"?

It must have been after Ace Frehley had left?

Yeah, this one girl came and said that her boyfriend was Eric Carr and that they were auditioning guitar players and would I want to check it out, and I was like, "You're kidding me". I couldn't believe it, I thought she was bullshitting me. But the next week, this band, we were playing Gozares, it's a club in Hollywood it was called Gozares, the next week we played and Eric Carr came. He called me later and said "Come down to the Record Plant I want you to meet Gene and Paul". At that time nobody had seen them without their makeup, it was kind of like this really weird thing. My sister was the biggest Kiss fan...she was freaking when I told her. I did some jamming on the songs they recorded in the studio. They were working on "Creatures of the Night", I think. Gene said, put some solos on this song so we can see what you do. I did, and it was funny cause Gene goes "Do you ever play major scales?" And I go, "Major scales, what's that?" And I remember feeling this like, you know in your spine when you get something like, "Oh fuck!" And he goes "Major scales", and I'm like "What is that, what is a major scale?" And he goes "Do Re Mi Fa Sol' ... and I go, "Oh that, yeah I know how to do that!" Brrrrrrrrrrrr and I start playing. I didn't know what it was called, you know. I was young. He wrote down some songs and he goes says go home, learn these songs and we'll call you and we'll play. It was like "Dr. Love", "Firehouse" and "Black Diamond"  or something. I didn't have a phone at a time, I was just living in this little room, but I was working at a music store and that's the number they could reach me at. And they called and said, Okay we're gonna jam tomorrow at SIR studios in Hollywood. I come in and it's this massive, looks like, an arena, a huge rehearsal room where people could set up their whole show, and there's just stacks of Marshalls and all this, I'm just like "Holy shit!" And I plug in and we played the songs and it went pretty cool, About a week later they called me back and told me to come back again. I went back and we jammed that day. It went well. It sounded good, but I was too young. Anyway, after that I started to get serious about practicing and things.  It was five or six years till Lion started recording.

KISS ON EBAY
If you attended a "Love Gun" show back in 1977/78 you may have gotten one of those at the concert. A KISS Pepsi Scream machine. It's a plastic cup, where you could punch out a whole at the bottom to use it as a scream machine. It came in 5 different colours, the most common being yellow. The other colours are very hard to find.

At the moment there is a complete set of all 5 Pepsi Scream Machine cups on eBay, but you better don't look at the asking price...

KISS ALIVE! BOX SET
The long awaited Kiss! Alive 1975 - 2000 Box Set has been released today. It includes Kiss Alive!, Alive II and Alive III on single discs (supposedly all 3 of them remastered) along with the previously unreleased "real" Alive IV from Vancouver 1999/2000.

There is some false advertising from Best Buy stating that if you buy the Box Set there, it will contain two exclusive Bonus Tracks. This was even mentioned on Kissonline. This is not correct. None of the Box Sets obtained from several people at Best Buy today did include any Bonus Tracks at all.

MESSAGE FROM PAUL
(from paulstanley.com)
Having just finished my first shows since 1989, I have to say I was blown away! We sounded even better than I had hoped and your reactions seemed to say you all felt the same. Thank you.

Sasha, Jimmy, Paul, Haffa and Nate were really incredible both off and onstage. The road crew's pride in being a part of this was written all over them and I was proud and lucky to have them with me. They too were an inspiration.

These shows reconnected for me the incredible intensity that can be created by loving what you do and giving it your all. I remember as a kid, I would go to concerts in NY and see Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Humble Pie, Led Zeppelin and countless other bands play small theaters and blow the place apart. Not with pyro or special effects, but with sheer energy, belief in their music and a determination to reach the audience and take them to a place that only they could. THAT's why I loved concerts and that's why I wanted to follow in their footsteps. This short tour and you in the audience confirmed my belief that we could also go there. We did and we will again.

As far as live shows, we are lining up shows outside of the US. and I hope to do many more here also.

So...

Goodbye is only for now
'Cause I'm coming back
I swear it somehow.

Paul

KISS AND DEF LEPPARD TO TEAM UP FOR NORTH AMERICAN TOUR?

Richmond Coliseum general manager Dolly Vogt told Melissa Ruggieri at the Richmond Times-Dispatch that a KISS/DEF LEPPARD tour is being explored for early 2007. There has been no official word as to whether this trek will see the light of day.

When asked by The Baltimore Sun if KISS will tour again, guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley said last month, "KISS will tour. Even if I wanted to destroy KISS, I couldn't. It has a life of its own. We're very fortunate that people still want to see us."

KISS TO CONTINUE RAIDING VAULTS FOR DVD SERIES
(from Billboard.com)
Gary Graff, Detroit
With the new "Kissology: The Ultimate Kiss Collection Vol. 1 1974-1977" lodged atop Billboard's Top Music Video chart, Kiss' Gene Simmons promises there's more where that came from.

"We hope it's going to be a 10-volume set," Simmons tells Billboard.com. "Volume 2 is being worked on right now. KISSOLOGY REVIEW
The Packaging:
The cover looks a bit different than in the adverts. The faces on the cover are printed in black on black background (?). The back-cover looks like it was made in a rush without listing the exact content of the discs. An insert sheet with more detailed content infos about the discs is attached. The whole packaging overall has a nice look.

KissologyFront.gif (11385 Byte) KissologyBack.gif (10211 Byte)

Booklet:
very nice booklet including great photos and a great layout!

Extras:
a re-printed Backstage pass from 1975 is included!

Bonus Disc:
the Bonus Disc and the Backstage pass come as an insert with the package.

Now the Review of the DVD Box itself:

The DVD starts without the menue. If you want to go to the menue, you have to click on "menue".

Disc 1:

Easter Egg (click on the Logo of the menue):
Deuce live 1973:

The footage is basically what you can expect from a private footage from 1973. It was filmed with one camera from distance in B/W. No close-ups unfortunately. Some heads in the way and rather bad sound. But still nice watching.

KissologyLive1973.jpg (5601 Byte)

Acrobat live 1974:

great rare old footagese. Nothing new for collectors, but still nice.

KissologyAcrobat.jpg (10612 Byte)

In concert 1974:

great old TV appearance.
"Nothin' to lose", "Firehouse" and "Black Diamond" in very good, but not perfect quality. It is said to be available in better quality in collectors circles.

KissologyInConcert1.jpg (11436 Byte) KissologyInConcert2.jpg (6557 Byte) KissologyInConcert3.jpg (8103 Byte)

Mike Douglas Show 1974:

very interesting old TV appearance. Interview with Gene & "Firehouse", in absolutely perfect quality, but nothing new to collectors. The interview was cut short and is not complete...

KissologyMikeDouglas1.jpg (16733 Byte) KissologyMikeDouglas2.jpg (12313 Byte) KissologyMikeDouglas3.jpg (10875 Byte)

Winterland 1975:

This concert was filmed in B/W and is in very good, but not perfect quality. Includes drop-outs. This show is available in perfect quality as a Bootleg. You may wonder what has happened to their master-tape... the end of "Let me go Rock & Roll" is a few seconds longer than on the Bootleg-version some collectors have. The Bootleg-version has a more professional looking ending with pictures shown at the end. On Kissology the raw master tape was not touched and fades out at the end.

KissologyWinterland1975.jpg (11648 Byte)

Midnight Special 1975:

another old interesting TV appearance ("She" and "Black Diamond"), unfortunately not in perfect quality. But still nice to look at. Unfortunately one song is missing from this show. "Black Diamond" is in questionably quality and in B/W. A great clip, but this is supposedly available in perfect quality on an official DVD. It is nothing new to collectors.

KissologyMidnightSpecial1.jpg (11198 Byte) KissologyMidnightSpecial2.jpg (15281 Byte) KissologyMidnightSpecial3.jpg (14182 Byte)

Promo Clips from "C'mon & love me" and "Rock and Roll all nite"

both clips in great quality, that's how it should be. Nothing new, but very nice!

KissologyCmonAndLoveMe.jpg (10163 Byte)

Cadillac Documentary:

this is an absolute highlight! A great report about Kiss in Cadillac, Mi 1975 in top quality! Most of it is never before seen footage, including great live-footage from the concert in Cadillac, filmed with several cameras! The audio isn't very good, but who cares? Where's the full show, if this has been recorded?

KissologyCadillac1.jpg (11851 Byte) KissologyCadillac2.jpg (6923 Byte) KissologyCadillac3.jpg (14651 Byte)

Detroit, 26.1.1976:

The concert is great, but unfortunately the quality isn't. Don't get me wrong, it is not really bad either - the picture and sound is OK, but not perfect except for the last three songs. For some reason the last three songs are in better quality than the rest. It seems, that there have been used two different master-tapes - whatever happened to one of them? Drop outs included. There is no backstage-footage before the show. This concert is said to exist in better quality in collectors circles without drop-outs.
KissologyDetroit1976.jpg (12281 Byte)

Disc 2:

Easter Egg (click on the Logo of the menue):
Kiss live at Ace Frehleys wedding....

All you can see is some lights on the ceiling and some outlines of shapes on stage.... what they play might be identified as parts of "Rock and Roll all nite" and "Shout it out loud". Rare footage, but terrible quality. The screenshot shows already the best part of the clip ...
KissologyAceWedding.jpg (10753 Byte)

So it goes 1976:

A great report about Kiss' first UK concert. This has been aired again a few years ago on British TV, so it is nothing new to collectors, but it's in perfect quality and it includes awesome footage!  Definately a highlight!

KissologySoItGoes.jpg (13393 Byte) KissologySoItGoes2.jpg (10071 Byte) KissologySoItGoes3.jpg (17109 Byte)

Halloween Special 1976:

Interview & "King of the nighttime world" live. A classic TV appearance, but two songs are missing. The quality is good, but said to be not the best available.

KissologyHalloweenSpecial.jpg (13393 Byte)

Tokyo 1977:

Complete show in great quality. Collectors do have this one already, but not in this kind of great quality. A little bit dark, but great!

KissologyTokyo1977.jpg (12272 Byte)

Clips 1976:

"Hard luck women", "Love 'em and leave 'em" and "I want you" in top qualität. Nothing new, but nice!

KissologyClips1976.jpg (11678 Byte)

Houston, 2.9.1977:

This footage on Kissology is a big disappointment! Whatever happened to their master-tape they used for the Exposed video?? The quality of the clips from this concert on "Exposed" is much better. This show does exist in great quality in collectors circles. The version on Kissology is too dark. You have to adjust the brightness to be able to watch it. There are also no  images shown in between the songs like on the Bootleg-version of the show circulating. Instead the picture just stays black. Some scenes from the first night were also thrown in.

KissologyHouston1977.jpg (10563 Byte)

Bonus Discs:

The first printing (about 150.000 copies, of which already 52.000 sold within' the first week) do include a Bonus Disc.
There are 3 different Bonus Discs, depending where you buy it:

Largo 1977:

This is exclusively available at "Wal-Mart" (in USA only, while "Wal-Mart" in Canada has New York 1977 as Bonus Disc)! 12 Songs from a never before seen concert in top quality! This DVD does also have a menue. So far only "Rock and Roll all nite" from this shown has been known to the public. Definately a highlight!

KissologyLargo1977.jpg (11844 Byte) KissologyLargo1977-2.jpg (15458 Byte) KissologyLargo1977-3.jpg (11735 Byte)

Detroit 25.1.1976:

This one is available exclusively at "Best Buy" in USA. The 10 songs from this concert (the whole show except the encores) are in perfect quality, better than the Bootleg version of the show. This DVD does not have a menue.

New York 1977:

This Bonus Disc is available everywhere else (including Amazon.com). Unfortunately only 7 songs. The first couple of seconds of the first song are clearly overdubbed. The quality is better than the Bootleg version around, but not perfect. There is no menue for this DVD.
KissologyNewYork1977.jpg (14338 Byte)

Comments:

This DVD set is a MUST for everybody, who doesn't have these concerts already. Collectors will also buy it for the unseen footage and better versions on the discs. In fact just about $ 25,- for the whole DVD box set is a very good deal!

Kissology overall turned out the way you would have expected. Including some surprises for the good and for the bad. Kiss have already used questionable quality footage on "Kiss my ass- the video" in 1994, so it is no surprise this happened again. It looks like it was put together in a rush, with no time left to erase the drop-outs or to look for better versions of some of the footage. It is also unclear, why some TV appearances are incomplete. They take so much care about all details for every album they put out, and live-albums are even partly re-recorded in the studio afterwards, if something doesn't sound 100% right. But when it comes to videos, for some strange reason, quality doesn't always seem to be a big issue.

Largo 1977 is definately one of the better surprises. But why waste it for a Bonus Disc just for "Wal-Mart"? Instead of Houston 1977 in this quality, there should have been the complete Largo-show on Disc 2.

The Anaheim 1976 concert was completely left out. Too bad. Kiss could have released such a Kisslogy set for almost every year in the '70s, there's lots of great stuff out there they could release officially. We will see, if the next Volumes of Kissology come close to the sales of the first one. However, Kiss could have cashed in big time, if they released all those concerts on video already 15 years ago. They could have re-released it on DVD and now released it again with Bonus material on Kissology...

Kissology already reached Gold status and is on the way to douple-platinum, it sold more copies than any other Kiss video in the first week.

Kissology so far has only been released in the USA and in Canada in NTSC and region code 1. However, if your DVD player is code free, it will play the discs without a problem, otherwise you can set your DVD player code free easily in most cases. If or when Kissology will be released in the rest of the world is unknown.

The Bonus Discs are limited. If you still like to get Kissology with a Bonus Disc you should hurry up. You may get Kissology with Bonus Disc Largo 1977 or Detroit 1976 here. Kissology with New York-Madison Square Garden 1977 as Bonus Disc is avalable at Amazon.com.

AGAIN, NO NOMINATION FOR KISS AT ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME
(from Wildwoodkiss75/Kiss Forum)
I got this email back from Terry Stewart/President of the RNRHOF

Thanks for your email regarding Kiss.

Nomination and induction into the Hall of Fame is not about popularity, records sales, which label the group is on, or anything other than the process below. The love for, the evaluation of, and the impact of any artist are subjective questions to be answered by the nominators and the voters. Unlike baseball, football, basketball or hockey, statistics are not relevant. Please read below:

The entire nomination and induction process is coordinated by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation in New York City. Individuals can be inducted in four categories: Performer, Early Influence, Non-Performer and Side-Men. The only formal criteria for the performance category is that an artist has to have had their first record 25 years ago. That said, candidates are reviewed and discussed relative to their impact on this music that we broadly call rock and roll. The innovation and influence of these artists is also critical. Gold records, number one hits, and million sellers are really not appropriate standards for evaluation.

The formal selection of Performers begins with an extensive panel of journalists, historians, previous inductees, noted musicians, industry heads, etc. In turn, those nominated are sent to a committee of more than 800 people around the world (journalists, historians, music industry management, all previous inductees, musicians, etc.) who vote. Those receiving the highest number of votes and more than 50% of the votes cast are inducted into the Hall. Usually, this means five to seven new performing members each year. So you can see the road to being inducted is an arduous one and for the most part, removed from the realm of influences or politics.

Finally, as I noted above, people sometimes forget that rock and roll and its artists are viewed in an incredibly subjective manner by any individual brought into the circle of discussion. As such, there is often widespread disagreement or fracturing of opinion about who is or was important.

I really think that all deserving candidates will have their moment eventually. Unfortunately, it often isn't the time frame they or their fans desire. In fact, there's not only precedent in our history, but also with the other sports Halls of Fame where many of the legends do not get inducted in the their first year of eligibility, or for many years to come in quite a few instances.

P. S. I was fortunate to work with Gene Simmons when I was President of Marvel Comics. He's a brilliant musician and marketer, both of which I highly respect. Having the Kiss Army here this past summer was fabulous. This just proves that once again, the power of the music we call rock and roll and the passion you as a fan have is unexcelled.

Peace & Soul,
Rock & Roll!

Terry Stewart
President
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum

PAUL STANLEY INTERVIEW
(from avclub.com)
Interviewed by Steven Hyden
November 9th, 2006

Kiss guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley released his first solo album 28 years ago, about the time Kiss last produced a song that people still scream for in concert. Stanley's second solo effort, Live To Win, isn't bad: Imagine an Andrew W.K. record without the ironic aroma. Recently, Stanley spoke with The A.V. Club about the gap between solo records, living up to Kiss' live reputation, and why he's as much an athlete as a musician.

The A.V. Club: Why such a long break between solo albums?

Paul Stanley: When someone first told me it had been 28 years, I thought they did the math wrong, but that's what it's been. It's staggering, when you think about it. What it comes down to is, Kiss has always been a beast that has this tendency to run wild, and it needs attention and nurturing. If people are always running off and doing other projects, which has been the case, somebody has to be there for stability. And I opted to do it.

AVC: Your first solo album was released simultaneously with solo albums by the other members of Kiss. Do you regret that?

PS: I didn't have a choice. The idea was to present group unity, which is kind of interesting, because the solo albums came out of the band being on the verge of splitting up. In the long run, it was putting a Band-Aid on a serious wound.

AVC: Do you feel any pressure to match Kiss' stage show?

PS: This show is in some ways more powerful than a Kiss show, because it has nothing. To get up there with a great band and just play like your life depends upon it is as powerful as it gets. I never heard so many people rave about something I have done.

AVC: You're known as a really energetic frontman, jumping around and dancing and getting the crowd into it. How much of your performance is planned out ahead of time?

PS: I don't plan anything. I go up there to figure out who I am. Every night, I like to see what I'm capable of. There are no rules.

AVC: What do you think when you see footage of yourself?

PS: I've seen myself do stuff on stage that was pretty amazing. I think that would be true for any athlete. Any top athlete will see something that they are very proud of. All my injuries will attest to the fact that besides being a musician, it comes down to being an athlete. I've torn both my knees. I've torn my rotator cuff. I've had my hip replaced. I've torn my left shoulder. Everybody will tell you these are just common sports injuries.

AVC: Kiss put out its own fragrance this year. Where did that idea come from?

PS: It was offered to us. It was something so unique that it was right up our alley. The naysayers and critics don't get it, because the fact is, we would be idiots to put out merchandise that the people don't want. Who are we to decide whether or not people should have what they want? Credibility is someone else's idea of what I should be doing, not mine.

AVC: What distinguishes Live To Win from a Kiss record?

PS: The fact that it's cohesive, because it's all mine. And the other thing is that if I write for Kiss, I'm writing for their limitations, their assets, the things that make the band what it is. If I write for myself, I write a song and I bring in the musicians that are best suited to play it. There's a freedom there. Everything I write is from my point of view. But when you have a whole body of songs together, it becomes obvious that you are writing from personal experience. The whole idea of Live To Win, the whole philosophy that permeates all the songs, is that you set your goals, you set your challenges, and you go for them without allowing anyone to get in your way. The people who try to stop you or get in your way are always the people who fail. If you live to win, you win even if you don't succeed, because you fail on your own terms.

AVC: What's it like touring as Paul Stanley as opposed to Kiss?

PS: I'll put what we're doing onstage up against anything that's out there. There's nothing out there that's better than what we're doing. The band is phenomenal; it's the band from the show Rock Star. We're doing a little under two hours. It's like walking in the ring every night knowing that you're going to do a first-round knockout. We go out there every night with big smiles on our faces and slay 'em. The nice thing is that we're getting off on it as much as they are.

AVC: There's a memorable scene in the 1988 documentary The Decline Of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years where you're laying on a bed with half a dozen half-naked girls and talking about being a rock star. How close to reality is that scene to your daily life?

PS: The funny thing is, I did that as a joke. It was a parody of everything that people envision rock life to be. Some people thought, "What an idiot! What a jerk!" As though I could actually live like that—well, I could—but as though I would want to live like that and flaunt it. I found it very funny, because I thought people would see it more as a skit. But clearly because of some of the company I was surrounded by in some of those other segments, where they weren't kidding, it maybe got taken more as documentary material.

AVC: You turn 55 in January. Do you ever see yourself retiring?

PS: From what? What is there to retire from? I'm a musician. I write about my life, and I love what I do, and nobody wants me to retire except the people who hate what I do. Guess what? They don't get their way. Nobody at a party ever asks when it's going to end. It's only the neighbors who ask.

PAUL McCARTNEY GETS KISS FROM PAUL STANLEY
(from AOL Music News Blog)
A&E recently aired 'Paul McCartney: The Space Within Us,' a one-hour version of his concert DVD, due Nov. 14. Shot on the former Beatle's 2005 world tour, most of the footage comes from Macca's legendary Anaheim gig, which was broadcast into space.

In addition to footage of astronauts drinking tea to McCartney's songs, testimonies are offered by celebs including Alec Baldwin, Cameron Crowe, ex-President Bill Clinton, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder and Kiss' Paul Stanley.

The Kiss guitarist is featured "rocking out" with his wife to McCartney's gig and pontificating on the Liverpudlian's importance: "Most people who get admired these days -- what's there to admire about an athlete? You don't have a clue what this person is about," he tells AOL Music. McCartney, by contrast, is the voice of more than one generation, he says.

"I'm a big fan. Who isn't?" Stanley says. "In my mind, there's Paul McCartney and there's everybody else. For me to be able to sing his praises? I'm there in a heartbeat."

PAUL STANLEY ASKS: DO YOU (STILL) LOVE ME?
(from StarTribune.com)
Kiss' starry-eyed co-leader talks solo album, coffee shops and, um, twins.
Chris Riemenschneider, Star Tribune
Last update: November 03, 2006 – 4:06 PM
Twenty-eight years after his first solo album -- released alongside the three other Kiss solo records at the height of the band's first marketing blitzkrieg -- Paul Stanley has released his second CD, "Live to Win." Tellingly, the album cover features Stanley, 54, front and center sans makeup. Stanley, who appears Tuesday at Myth nightclub, called two weeks ago from a tour stop in Orlando, Fla.

Q How does it feel playing without makeup once again?

A It's awesome. I love being a member of Kiss. But I have to say that going out and doing these shows, it points out to people where the power of this music really is, and where the heart and soul is. It's not in makeup or pyrotechnics.

Q This album shows a serious side -- or at least there are no songs like "Let's Put the X in Sex." Was that intentional?

A I hear the word "serious," and I equate it with "not fun." That's not the case here. I think I'm having more fun in my life than I've ever had. It's just a different kind of fun.

Q Do you care if this CD competes with Kiss commercially?

A Whether it sells 500 or 5 million copies, it doesn't change my life any. There's no pressure on me that way. The bills are all paid, folks. So for me, it was more important making the album I wanted to make.

Q Do you at least hope it tops Gene Simmons' last album?

A I can't comment on that.

Q Do you watch Gene's new reality show ["Gene Simmons' Family Jewels" on A&E], or have you seen him up-close and personal enough?

A Gene was at this tour's opening night in Atlanta. He's my brother and I love him. But he still does a whole lot of things that I scratch my head about.

Q What's next: another solo album or a Kiss tour?

A Both. There will definitely be another Kiss tour. We're sorting that out. But there will be another solo album, too.

Q Any Kiss songs on this tour?

A Yeah, they're my songs. I wrote 'em. And a lot of the ones I wrote, I also arranged.

Q Any standout memories from playing the Twin Cities?

A Did you say "mammaries" or "memories"? [Laughs.] That's why they call them the Twin Cities, isn't it?

Q The Kiss Koffeehouse is the band's latest branding gimmick. Are there no limits?

A What can I say? People come to us with great ideas. The fact that you can't base a coffeehouse on any other rock band is the other rock bands' problem, not mine. You know, credibility is someone else's idea of what I should be doing. But you'd also be surprised how many ideas we have turned down over the years.

Q Speaking of merchandising, when I was 7 or 8 I sent off for a keychain from the Kiss Army, even though I didn't have any keys. It never came. Any chance you can hook me up now?

A Sure, you got it.

[His publicist sent this keychain that day.]

This photo was taken in Ottawa Canada at the Civic Centre on Thur April 22nd, 1976. This photo captures Gene with his hair on fire and a roadie running across the stage to put out the blaze atop Gene's head. This photo is a one of a kind, in fact they don't have a photo like this in the book KISSTORY!! This photo was taken over 30 years ago and it's astonishing to think this only happened to Gene a few times. That's what makes it even more rare, because the few times it did happen, it was never captured on film!! Click here to see it.

PETER CRISS AT THE CHILLER THEATER
(from Marie/Kiss Forum)
Peter recently signed a new drumstick endorsement deal with Pro-Mark.
For those who might not know, Peter was with Pro-Mark before from the early 1980’s through the mid-1990’s.

He was offering his custom made Pro Mark drum sticks which feature personally drawn artwork on them [ not personally drawn on each pair - the artwork was printed on the drumsticks when they were manufactured ] :
Sorry, I haven't seen any photos of these drumsticks out there yet :

Pro-Mark TXR3JW - jazz stick with a green & black "jazz cat".
and
Pro-Mark TX3RW - rock stick that features Peter’s cross Tattoo in red & black.

I contacted Pro-Mark through their website to ask if these can be purchased through them, and they replied that only Peter has them.
http://www.promark-stix.com/products/search.cfm

A few fans on another forum [ not many though ] said they would attend the event, and it was widely known that these drumsticks were to be exclusive to the Chiller Theater event.
I asked someone who was going to please get me a pair each of the sticks, but they had to turn me down due to the MANY requests he was receiving for the same favor. Very understandable, and I'm sure all the fans who went also were bombarded with the same request.

If Peter's drumsticks did not sell out at the Chiller Theater, we can only hope that they will be available through either Peter's website or Pro-Mark some day.

Fans reported when they returned from these days of the event that Peter and Gigi were extremely nice and friendly and even spoke at length with them and a few fans after the long lines to meet him died down.
Two fans reported that Peter told them that his new CD would be released in the next 4 months.
Before we get our hopes up "too" high, even solid release dates can change suddenly and at the last minute. At least we know that his CD will be available early next year sometime.

On the release of 'KISSology: Volume 1' the band has also hidden two real gems in the rough for fans to salivate over.
Bring up the Main Menu of the first disc and then press the 'Up' arrow key on your remote control to highlight the 'KISS' logo. Now press 'Enter' and you will see the earliest known KISS performance footage from the concert at the Conventry on December 21 1973 as the band performs 'Deuce.'
Now insert the second disc of the set in your DVD player and bring up the Main Menu. There, press the 'Up' arrow key on your remote control to highlight the 'KISS' logo. Press the 'enter' key now and you will be treated to an extraordinary six-and-a-half minute clip of the band performing at Ace Frehley’s wedding in 1976 – without make-up!

PAUL STANLEY NYC CONCERT REVIEW
(from www.eddietrunk.com)
Real busy weekend of lot's of cool rock stuff. Saturday night I attended Paul Stanley's solo show at Irving Plaza in NYC. Paul has always been my favorite member of the band, one of my favorite singers, and his '78 solo album is still one of the great under the radar gems in rock music. Needless to say the crowd was pumped and the place was packed. Everyone got to the venue early and didn't move until the show ended so they didn't lose their standing space. Really great buzz in the crowd. Paul was performing his third show in a row but still sang his ass off. When I interviewed him in LA prior to this tour starting he expressed some concern about singing a full set on his own and how he would hold up, no worries, he pretty much nailed everything. His backing band was made up of the TV show Rock Star's house band. They all did a solid job, the drummer probably being the highlight of the group. The set included 4 songs from the new solo LP and 4 from the '78 solo album. There was also a mix of Kiss tunes from all eras. I personally could have done without hearing the signature Kiss classics like Detroit, Lick It Up and Love Gun in this show. In a small setting with the most hard core fans in attendence he could have easily added a few more rare tunes, but I understand why he did play this stuff and it went down great. As for the rare live songs, well they were all show highlights for me. Especially two that I don't think were ever done live; Magic Touch from Dynasty and A Million To One from Lick It Up. Paul actually admitted to me after the show that I put the bug in his ear last month to do that one! Other highlights for me were Got To Choose, Hide Your Heart and of course all of the '78 solo tracks. As for the new songs they all went over well and had a little more edge and crunch to them then the CD versions. Overall a great night. To me my love of Kiss was always first and foremost about the music, and that was the real focus of this show and it all sounded great. Let's hope Paul adds more dates and continues down this path for the future. Also, just a side note. When I entered the venue everyone came up to me saying they heard Ace was going to be at the show. I had spoken to him the night before and he also told me he was thinking of going and was invited, however he wasn't feeling well and was not there, contrary to rumours he was.

PAUL STANLEY MILWAUKEE SHOW CANCELLED
(from www.paulstanley.com)
As a result of a grueling tour schedule with very few breaks and a very long day promoting KISSOLOGY in NY on Halloween, Paul has been ordered by his throat doctor to take several days off from performing to rest his voice.

Paul regrettably has to cancel his appearance on the Bob & Tom show as well as his Milwaukee concert Friday. His KISS Fragrance promotional appearance Saturday in Detroit and the rest of the LIVE TO WIN Tour will proceed as scheduled.
