INTERVIEW WITH ERIC SINGER

(from www.kissintime.webs.com)
Eric Singer is one of the hardest working musicians in the world of rock music. From working with Alice Cooper, Brian May, and twenty years with KISS, Eric has made quite the name for himself. No matter how in-demand this incredible musician may be, he always takes time to talk to diehard KISS fans (like me) every chance he gets! Today, I am proud to present to you my chat with Eric Singer as we talked about his first album, Revenge, as well as KISS' new studio album, Monster, slated for release this fall! Enjoy!

Eric, I appreciate you taking time to talk to me today. I thought it would be cool to not only look at the past but into the future as well. First, let's go back to 1992....the year of Revenge. This was undoubtedly an exciting time to be a KISS fan: A heavier album and even a darker choice of wardrobe. The 1980's were clearly a thing of the past. My first question is what was it like entering the studio to work with Bob Ezrin? Being a fan of Alice Cooper and KISS in your teenage years plus working with these two bands had to make it very exciting for you?

INTERVIEW WITH PRODUCER/ENGINEER/MIXER TOBY WRIGHT

(from legendary Rock Interviews)

Toby Wright, who worked with Kiss on "Carnival of souls" was interviewed for "Legendary Rock Interviews". Here's an excerpt from this interview:

LRI:  Bruce told us that one of the most frustrating things to him was that the album was leaked and that all the hard work put into it was finally heard by people listening to poor quality bootlegged versions. Given the delay in releasing CARNIVAL OF SOULS did that surprise you or was that inevitable?

Toby:  In a way it surprised and disappointed me but on the other hand I think it was leaked by one of the band members themselves.

LRI:   Wow, I’d heard that rumor before.
Toby:  That’s my personal feeling and I have no proof of that but I’m pretty sure it was an internal thing.  I’m not sure of the how, when or why but I know that when they agreed to do the makeup tour Carnival of Souls was put on the shelf and there could have been animosity there  on the part of some.    Who knows what the motive was but I definitely think it was an intentional thing because I know for a fact that all of the material was so closely guarded because this was the beginning of the whole internet era and things being leaked.  We had heard about other albums being leaked so we were very cautious so for those reasons I feel it was done on purpose.

20 YEARS OF REVENGE WITH ERIC SINGER

(from Bravewords/Mitch Lafon)

May 19th 2012 marked the 20th anniversary of the brilliant KISS Revenge album. BraveWords.com has marked the passing of this landmark record with a series of interviews conducted over the last few weeks. Our first four parts focused on the lesser known heroes of the Revenge album as well as former KISS guitarist, Bruce Kulick. In this, our fifth and final installment, we focus our attention to current KISS drummer, Eric Singer. He first came to prominence with KISS as ‘the new guy’ on the Revenge album. BraveWords.com caught up with the veteran drummer (who is gearing up to hit the road with the band on their The Tour with MÖTLEY CRÜE) for his comments on the album that started his career with the band.

BraveWords.com: Tommy Thayer recently mentioned that he did background vocals on Revenge.

Eric Singer: “Yup. I was there when he did it. I did it with him and (I think) Jaime St. James and somebody else was there.

ON THE ROAD WITH THE DEAN AND KISS

(from BareFootMusicNews.com)

Did you ever wonder what it would be like to go on the road with a big-name rock band? Lots of parties, screaming fans, babes, VIP everything? Well, not exactly. Dean Snowden has been a very good friend of mine for a long time. If that fact doesn’t entice you to read an interview with him, then perhaps the fact that he is the official photographer for KISS, plus their VIP Meet and Greet specialist, will.

He has worked with a few other groups as well: Motley Crew, Pat Benatar, Trans Siberian Orchestra and Rage Against the Machine, to name a few. I figure that there are at least 100 million people in the world who would pay to have Dean’s job, so I asked him just what it entailed.

Dean: “I take care of all the paid people who come to meet the band. My gig is to make sure that the fans have a good time and that the band has a good time.

RARE 1974 KISS PROMO POSTER SELLS FOR $ 1.400,- ON EBAY

(from ultimateclassicrock.com/Karen "Gilly" Laney)

When Kiss shipped their 1974 debut album out to radio stations, it included a little something extra in the form of a full color poster of the band. Nearly 40 years later, that one-time freebie courtesy of Casablanca Records & Tapes has a collector’s value of at least $1500, based on the one that recently sold on eBay.

This poster goes to prove that branding has always been important to Kiss. Though Gene Simmons and company have since taken that idea to extremes, Kiss has always been exceptionally clever in marketing themselves. Can you imagine a disc jockey or record store owner in a remote town opening up a promo package, finding a white label promo album that included this poster with it? This poster could have very well been the first image they saw of the band, and chances are they wanted to hear what these four boys in make-up sounded like. Mission accomplished.

Due to the way it was originally shipped, the seller notes that every copy of this poster has crease marks in it — in fact, if it doesn’t, it’s likely a reproduction. This particular poster was purchased at a Kiss convention in the early ‘90s and though it does have the fold lines, it’s been in a frame since that purchase date. The listing notes a few minor flaws but overall this rarity appears in very good condition. Good enough to pay $1400 for? Apparently!

20 YEARS OF REVENGE PART 4

(from Bravewords/Mitch Lafon)

May 19th 2012 marked the 20th anniversary of the brilliant KISS Revenge album. BraveWords.com has marked the passing of this landmark record with a series of interviews conducted in the last couple of weeks. Our first three parts focused on the lesser known heroes of KISS’ greatest non-makeup album. In this, our fourth installment, we switch our attention to guitarist, Bruce Kulick, who had a long tenure with KISS and is still revered by the fans. BraveWords.com caught up with the veteran guitarist (and current member of GRAND FUNK RAILROAD) to discuss his work on KISS’ classic, Revenge.

BraveWords.com: When the band went into the studio to record Revenge, Eric Carr had passed away, NIRVANA was breaking and KISS was coming out of a ‘pop’ phase. Was there a lot of pressure going in to make the album?

Bruce Kulick: “You have to remember that we evolved through those prior years. By Hot In The Shade we were a little more back to leather jackets and more straight ahead rock.

20 YEARS OF REVENGE PART 3

(from Bravewords/Mitch Lafon)

May 19th will mark the 20th anniversary of the brilliant KISS Revenge album. BraveWords.com will mark the passing of this landmark record with a five part series of interviews conducted in the last couple of weeks with the major players on the disc as well as a few musicians that you may not know took part in the album’s recording sessions. Our third such surprise is guitarist, Dick Wagner. Like Tommy Thayer and Kevin Valentine before him, Revenge marked Dick’s second appearance on a KISS album (having played on the band’s seminal album, Destroyer). Wagner has always been a go-to-guy for producer Bob Ezrin and made a name for himself as part of Alice Cooper’s original Welcome To My Nightmare album and tour. BraveWords.com caught up with the veteran guitarist to talk about his chance involvement on KISS’ classic Revenge album. He’s also recently released an autobiography, Not Only Women Bleed.

BraveWords.com: You make a brief appearance on KISS’ Revenge album playing the crucial solo on the ballad, ‘Every Time I Look At You’. How did that happen?

Dick Wagner: “I was in the studio and KISS was in the adjacent studio. I was recording some new material of my own... Some pretty elaborate demos. Some of that stuff is on my Full Meltdown album. Anyhow, Paul Stanley came over to say hello to me and asked me if I would come in and play on a track that Bruce Kulick hadn’t been able to do. Paul asked me to come over and play, so I went over. I said hello to Bob (Ezrin); they played the track for me and I played a solo. That was it.”

THAYER UNLEASHES HIS PASSION WITH A KISS

(from FM News 101KXL)

With bands such as Everclear, Dandy Warhol’s and Quarterflash at one time calling Portland, Oregon their home, Portland is known as a town steeped in music heritage. Sports and music go hand in hand and the Bald Faced Truth brings both worlds together. Rock guitarist Tommy Thayer, known for being in the band Black ‘n Blue and currently the lead guitarist in the band Kiss joined the Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano to talk about his career and the upcoming fundraising event called the All Star Salute at the Oregon Golf Club. The event will serve as a kick off for the Capital Campaign for the Oregon Military Museum which will be named after his father, Retired General James B. Thayer.

Tommy Thayer and John discuss how he got involved in playing music in a band and whether or not he played sports as a youth. Thayer talks about the climate of the music scene in Portland, OR in the early 1980’s and moving to Los Angeles to follow his dream of having a successful rock band. Thayer and John have a riveting conversation about Tommy’s passion for philanthropy and charity work. What’s Tommy’s take on women playing in rock bands? Listen to this great interview with Tommy Thayer and find out.

EXCLUSIVE: GENE SIMMONS HEADS TO ROCK'N' ROLL FANTASY CAMP, TALKS KISS ALBUM
(from billboard.com)
Kiss' Gene Simmons is prepping the whip for his role mentoring the next batch of Rock & Roll Fantasy Camp attendees.

"I intend to be a hard taskmaster," Simmons, who joins the camp Oct. 10-14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, tells Billboard.com. "The guy you hate the most when you go off into war is your drill sergeant, and he's the guy you love the most when you get on the battlefield and all that hard work he put you through saves your life, or at least made you a better soldier. So I'm gonna be the drill sergeant and take these guys through it. They may not be able to perform in an arena, play in the band of their dreams or become big rock stars, but they'll certainly be able to step up on their local stages everywhere and be 10 times the performer they were before."

20 YEARS OF REVENGE (PART 2)
(from Bravewords/Mitch Lafon)
May 19th, 2012 will mark the 20th anniversary of the brilliant KISS Revenge album. BraveWords.com will mark the passing of this landmark record with a five part series of interviews conducted in the last couple of weeks with the major players on the disc as well as a few musicians that you may not know took part in the album’s recording sessions. Our second such surprise is drummer, Kevin Valentine (DONNIE IRIS & THE CRUISERS). Like Tommy Thayer before him, Revenge was Kevin’s second appearance on a KISS album (having come in to cut the drums for the track ‘Take It Off’).

KISS TO PLAY SUMMER FESTIVAL IN OSLO JUNE 30
KISS Confirms their only show in Scandinavia 2012 AS HEADLINER FOR THE KOLLEN FESTIVAL, THE NEW FESTIVAL IN HOLMENKOLLEN SATURDAY, 30th of JUNE

Superstar Rihanna has already been announced as the headliner for the first day of the first ever “Kollen Sommerfestival”. The line up has so far been complimented with strong international names such as Alison Krauss & Union Station and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. Now we have the great pleasure to release the band that will be headlining the last day of the festival.

The band is no other than Kiss – the world’s most iconic rockband. Living legends that have sold over a 100 milion albums worldwide and still holds the most gold records awarded to an American rock band. Legends with massive classical rock songs such as ”I Was Made For Lovin’ You”, ”Crazy Crazy Nights”, ”Detroit Rock City”, ”Rock And Roll All Nite”, ”Love Gun”,”Beth” and ”God Gave Rock  ’N’ Roll To You”. All songs Gene ”The Demon” Simmons, Paul ”Starchild” Stanley and the rest of the band will bring with them to TheKollen Festival.

”Kiss Saturday on the big stage at Kollen is a dream come true. To really experience a band like Kiss you need a stage that justifies the greatness of the band, and Kollen is the only festival in Norway that can provide just that. It’s flat out extremely cool to be able to give Oslo an exclusive concert with the worlds largest rock ’n’ roll circus as the grand finale on the first edition of Kollen ever.” – Pål Jakobsen, head ofbooking Kollen.

The band regarded as the most influential rock and roll bands of all-time is looking forward to Kollen, and their only show in Scandinavia this summer, stating:

You wanted the best, you got the best – KISS at Kollen Sommerfestival.

Bring your safety belts and crash helmets, it's going to be the show of shows.” – Gene Simmons, KISS

NEW BOOTLEGS
Recently a lot of old Bootlegs have been re-released on vinyl. Also "Psycho Circus" has been "inofficially" re-released in various colours on vinyl LP. Tons of those Bootlegs have been sold on eBay recently, here are just a few shown below. Kiss and the record company still have not understood, that there is a big collectors market for vinyl albums out there. There are a lot of old recordings, which could be officially released on vinyl, or at least old albums could be re-released on vinyl. However, Bootleggers seem to be very happy about the fact, that there are no official vinyl records available...
