GENE SIMMONS - KISS THE CRIMINAL CHARGES G'BYE

(from TMZ)

Gene Simmons is no terrorist -- at least according to the L.A. County District Attorney, who just decided not to prosecute the rocker over an alleged violent altercation with two people.

The D.A. issued a report -- obtained by TMZ -- which explains there was not enough evidence to prove Gene choked and then threatened both Nathan Marlowe and his significant other Cynthia Manzo at The Grove shopping center last year.

However, Gene isn't out of the woods yet -- according to the docs, Marlowe has also filed a civil lawsuit against Simmons claiming "the stress of the incident has impaired his ability to work in a tattoo parlor and to have sex with Cynthia Manzo."

PODKISST #32: THE "ALIVE!" LEGACY & MORE

(from podkisst.com)
Thirty-five years ago, KISS changed the world of rock music with something they called “Alive!” More than just a live album, this was “theater of the mind” as only KISS could do it. They found a way to create a concert in your head, with bombastic explosions and deafening cheers the likes of which would level any real arena. The music itself was the sound of KISS having an impossibly perfect night, where everything lined up flawlessly without ever compromising their raw energy.

KISS IN EUROPE

The tour started with 9 shows in the UK. Maybe too many, because they had some soft places there, especially Liverpool. Two shows however were a sellout.
Not too many fans at the meet & greets, especially if you consider it was done for the first time in the UK.

In mainland Europe one sellout after the other. Zürich and Geneva were almost sold out. Especially Geneva was doing suprisingly well, twice as many people showed up than in 1997 at the Reunion tour. Milano was a sellout and Kiss played their biggest show in Austria ever with an almost sold out concert in Vienna.

And the meet & greets? The more expensive, the more people come you might say. This time better organised, meeting point at 6pm at the box office. At 7.45 pm it's time to go backstage to the meet & greet. Meet & greet and VIP purchasers have an early entry, so they can shop early...

Ostrava and Prag followed, two shows almost sold out. In Germany for some reason ticket sales could be better, especially Berlin. Scandinavia did also better last tour, but the venues and stadiums will get filled.
All in all a successfull tour. Good enough to be counting for another tour, because also in Spain ticket sales are doing surprisingly well.

At the concerts you can buy an USB stick. No CDs this time, at least not at the concerts. But you won't find the full show on the USB stick, you will have to download the encores at home with a special code you will receive when purchasing the stick. Prices for the merchandise are cheaper in eastern European countries. The tourbook is very big (both in size and pages) and well worth the money!

The Gene Simmons bus is also present at each concert. It promotes the Gene Simmons Axe bass, which you can buy for $ 5.000,- - including a meet & greet with Gene Simmons. For $ 5.500,- you can get Paul Stanleys guitar - smashed & signed, including a Paul Stanley meet & greet.
Oh, and you can even buy Gene Simmons bass "stage used" - he bleeds, sweats and spits on it. More details here.

Here are rough estimates of attendance figures so far - including meet & greets numbers:

Sheffield: ca. 7000 / ca. 8 at meet & greet
Newscastle: ca. 7.500/ ca. 8 at meet & greet
Liverpool: ca. 4.000 / ca. 12 at meet & greet
Birmingham: ca. 11.000 (almost sold out) / ca. 10 at meet & greet
Dublin: ca. 8.000 / ca. 13 at meet & greet
Glasgow: ca. 12.500 (sold out) / ca. 5 at meet & greet
Manchester: ca. 12.500 (almost sold out) / ca. 35 at meet & greet
London first night: ca. 4.500 / ca. 16 at meet & greet
London second night: ca. 11.000 (sold out) / ca. 33 at meet & greet
Zürich: ca. 14.000 (almost sold out) / ca. 33 at meet & greet
Geneva: ca. 8.000 (almost sold out) / ca. 55 at meet & greet
Milano: 15.000 (sold out) / ca. 27 at meet & greet
Vienna: ca. 14.000 (almost sold out) / ca. 26 at meet & greet
Ostrava: ca. 11.000 (almost sold out) / ca. 4 at meet & greet
Prague: ca. 18.000 (almost sold out) / ? at meet & greet
Updates will follow here at Kiss News.

Average attendance: about 10.500, and the big shows are yet to come.

KISS "HOTTEST SHOW ON EARTH" TOURDATES

(from noisecreep.com)
It's time for round two. Legendary rockers Kiss are coming back to America in support of their newest album, 'Sonic Boom.' The Hottest Show on Earth Tour will stop in both amphitheaters and arenas. In typical Kiss fashion, the band is promising a huge stage show -- and rare songs not usually performed live. Tickets for many shows go on sale June 4 via Live Nation.

Instead of selecting an established band as support, Kiss has teamed up with Guitar Center to discover a talented, unsigned act. The Guitar Center On-Stage competition will allow unsigned rock bands to compete for a chance to open for Kiss at 22 different tour stops. The winning band will also receive a $10,000 Guitar Center shopping spree. Unsigned bands can begin registering June 1.

Watch as Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley spill exclusive details about the tour.

Fans will also be giving back just by attending a Kiss concert this summer. The members of Kiss will donate a dollar from every ticket sold to the Wounded Warriors Project. This charity benefits the United States Armed Forces.

SONIC BOOM OVER EUROPE GOES SIMFY LIVE
(from Fabio "Deuce" Mainardi)

Back stage with KISS recording team
Milan, May 18, KISS show n°12 of the Sonic Boom Over Europe Tour. I was heading to the venue with the bitter-sweet feeling this would be the last time I could see them live…I was thinking the same in 1996, though…

KISS is immortal as their music and nowadays it’s so cool KISS fans may be collect high quality recordings of each and every show thanks to the massive job carried over by KISS technical partner simfy live (formerly known as Concert Online). The daily planning said I would have met up with the recording team at the Mediolanum Forum to see how all the things are being done and set up in order to let the people have their show on hand in the same time KISS are backstage taking off their greasepaint! Unfortunately due to some technical insider information taped during the interview, the management decided on not having the video published in any way, but I can tell you the guys are doing a tremendous job; it’s even unimaginable how many things should be set up for every show and immediately after packed as fast as possible in order to be shipped to the next venue.

Basically the KISS shows are taped on 46 tracks boot including some crowd mikes and all snares toms and pedasl of Eric’s drum kit. The recording is made on a pair of PC in order to be able to switch for one to another in case of default and to be sure to get the recordings done. Cutting tracks and tagging them is done almost live, and even the “special effects” of the guitars moving form channel left to right (during Tommy solo e.g.) are done live thanks to a Video installed in the control room where the guys may follow KISS playing and choose the right timing to fade in and fade out the guitars lines. All concert are ready to be sold up to the 11nd song that normally is 100,000 years at the end of the show while the remening part become downloadable early in the afternoon of the following day, almost incredible to see…amazing to listen, believe me!!

For more infos on simfy live products and tour dates listing go to simfyLive.com

We are a Belgian old school Hard Rock Tribute band called THE NATION.

We release our first album on June 5th 2010 on the Cry for the nation-release party held at café t, Schransken, Reibroeckstraat 197, Evergem in Belgium.

Order for the album can be send to merchandise@thenation.be . The album costs €10 + shipping.
More info on the band can be found on our websites. A promoclip can be watched here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdT05NZl2XU

THE LOST 1979 DYNASTY TOUR DOCUMENTARY
A clip from an unreleased documentary about KISS's 1979 Dynasty Tour has surfaced online to promote the auctions of eBay seller EliteWorks. "A DAY IN THE LIFE OF KISS" was produced as a touring industry training film in the early 1980s and was intended to be issued as a promotional LaserDisc. The segment features a very insightful audio commentary by the late Bill McMannus, whose production company serviced several 1970s KISS tours.

Among the items up for auction: signed items from founding drummer Peter Criss, a never-before-seen collection of 1970s KISS cover story Performance Magazines, a lot featuring 14 Alive/Worldwide guitar picks, complete sets of picks from the Crazy Nights and 1989 Paul Stanley solo tours, the rare Japanese Lick It Up LP with the makeup cover, lots of other import vinyl, and even a prototype box for the unreleased KISS Trivia Challenge CD-Rom game.

The KISS auctions may be viewed

KISS IN THE PRESS
The "Kronen Zeitung" (Austrias biggest daily newspaper) was given away for free after the Kiss concert in Vienna. It featured Gene on the cover and 3 pages of articles inside - including a concert review of the concert. There was only a limited amount given away and the newspaper was gone really fast. Most likely this was a special "conecrt edition" of the newspaper and not the regular edition.

DID YOU KNOW...
... that in Australia a few copies of "Double Platinum" were released in a white cover? Supposedly they ran out of the silver foil during printing. Such a rare white album cover is now listed on eBay:
80[4].jpg (2444 Byte)

... that PERFORMANCE MAGAZINE (1969-1999) was a U.S. weekly trade magazine for the touring industry whose back issues are extremely collectable. Very few copies of the magazine still exist as they were usually tossed in the trash when the following week's issue arrived.
KISS not only graced the cover several times but KISS centerfolds and full-page print ads were frequently purchased during 1975-76. These print ads are so rare that even most of the biggest die-hard KISS fans have never seen them.
Performance Magazine also had the pleasure of producing the very first KISS special issue magazine in February 1976 and one can be found on eBay right now along with several other KISS/Performance issues.

Whitney Houston is playing today in Vienna - for 5.000 people. "Österreich" also does a story on Kiss and reports that Kiss will be landing this afternoon with their private jet in Vienna.

INTERESTING AUCTIONS ON EBAY
There are some old Bravo magazines listed on eBay at the moment:
Bravo 11/1975: this issue featured the first article on Kiss. The band was presented as the band from hell.
80[3].jpg (2484 Byte)

In the next issue 12/1975 was another article and a gigantic huge live shot poster. Kiss were also featured on the cover together with Sweet.
80[3].jpg (2344 Byte)

Before the first tour in Germany there was also a special edition from Bravo magazine released called Bravoposter. It came in large size and also featured Kiss on the cover, plus poster and article!
80[3].jpg (2998 Byte)

In 1976 the probably most popular Kiss cover ever was released. Kiss on top of a skyscraper. The issue featured also a huge Kiss poster and an article.
80[4].jpg (2937 Byte)

There was a promotional mobile released for the album "Destroyer". It is a very rare collectible item these days, listed on eBay at the moment.

GENE SIMMONS SAYS KISS COSTUME PREVENTS "GRINDING"

(from comcast.net)
KISS bassist Gene Simmons on Friday denied brushing up against a make-up artist and "grinding" against her, saying his codpiece-style stage costume made that impossible.

Simmons' legal team filed court papers in Los Angeles asking a judge to declare that accuser Victoria Jackson has suffered no harm from the star of costume rock and reality television.

Simmons' lawyers said Jackson has threatened to sue over the "alleged assault that never occurred" unless he pays her $185,000.

The dispute stems from a November 2009 appearance Simmons and fellow band member Eric Singer made on the ESPN television show "SportsCenter."

Jackson has stated in a letter to Simmons, 60, that he hugged and "grinded" her in a hallway at ESPN studios in Los Angeles, when he was there for "SportsCenter."

But Simmons' lawyers say Jackson's grinding allegations are "implausible if not impossible" because he was in his KISS costume with a codpiece that sits over the groin.

KISS began its career in the 1970s and scored hits with "Detroit Rock City" and "Rock and Roll All Nite." Simmons has since become a reality TV star on "Gene Simmons: Family Jewels".

An ESPN spokesman said the company was not involved in the lawsuit.

FIRST TV-INTERVIEW FROM 1974 POSTED ONLINE

The first known TV interview with KISS has been posted online to promote the auctions of eBay seller EliteWorks. The previously uncirculated interview was recorded on June 15, 1974, backstage at Toronto's Massey Hall, during the band's first tour. At the time KISS were opening for the more established New York Dolls. This footage is an excerpt from a 36-year old Canadian documentary on "Glitter Rock."

Highlights from the online auctions include: an original 1973 concert poster from the band's New York club days, tour itineraries, vintage concert T-shirts and photos, as well as a large selection of rare picture discs and import singles.

1973 CONCERT POSTER BEING AUCTIONED

A 37-year-old vintage KISS concert poster from the band's New York club days is being auctioned online by eBay seller EliteWorks. This vintage poster was hand-designed by founding KISS member Paul Stanley and was printed in 1973 by a friend of the band's original drummer, Peter Criss. The three performances advertised on the poster took place over Labor Day Weekend 1973, at the legendary Coventry nightclub in Queens, New York. The 800-seat club catered to the underground New York Glam Rock scene of the early 1970s and bands such as the New York Dolls, KISS and even Cyndi Lauper all got their start at Coventry.

These late summer concerts were the final time KISS performed live, prior to recording their first album, which was released five months later, in February 1974. The poster was found in the collection of one of KISS's very first roadies. An actual picture from the 1973 Coventry concerts advertised on the poster can be seen in the auction also.

The poster and the seller's other KISS auctions can be viewed here.

KISS: STILL ROCKING HARD

(from BBC News)
It's difficult finding a chink in the armour of US hard rock band Kiss.

It's not just the physical armour, which along with platform boots makes bassist Gene Simmons around seven feet tall. Their self-confidence hubris is almost impossible to dent.

"You can be three or 73 and a Kiss fan," declares guitarist Paul Stanley, who along with guitarist Tommy Thayer and drummer Eric Singer make up the rest of the band.

"Our fans are celebrating our jubilant approach to life and the fact we don't take rubbish from anybody and you can come out a winner.

(from News of the world)
ROCK GODS REVEAL ALL AHEAD OF THEIR FIRST GIG IN SCOTLAND FOR 20 YEARS
"DON'T touch my ass," warns Gene Simmons.
He's in no imminent danger. A-Listed is a shade over 6ft but, even without his platform boots, America's most legendary rocker is a good few inches taller.
And standing side by side with his towering presence, you get the distinct impression that, if anyone's going to be molested, it won't be him.

LET'S KISS AND MAKE-UP AT THE ARENA

(from The Star)
By David Dunn
AS KISS arrive all flame-throwers blazing tomorrow don't expect any modesty from the mighty Gene Simmons.

"I love the sound of my own voice," he admits at the start of our face to (make-up-free) face chat in a swanky London hotel.

But for the all the bravado and bombastic stage shows, the KISS bassist and lead singer is a big man with a big heart, not least when it comes to seeing the influx of new young fans in the crowd having caught the KISS bug, thanks partly to their long overdue album Sonic Boom.

It was always going to take something special to top Kiss’s amazing performance at the Download Festival in 2008.
But last night the costumed rock superheroes pulled out all the stops with a brand new stage show and a set-list that stretched from their 1974 debut to 2009’s Sonic Boom album.

IN PICTURES: KISS AT LIVERPOOL ARENA

(from The Music Fix)
From the second they made their entrance on a giant platform, Kiss hit the ground running, kicking off a two hour show of non-stop rock and roll mayhem. Complete with pyros, flaming torches an over-the-head guitar solo, and a familiar tongue that just refused to stay in its mouth, there was little chance of the venue roof staying on. Mining their ample back catalogue, along with cuts from current record, our highlight of the evening was the one-two-punch of 'Crazy Nights' and 'Calling Dr. Love', the former not seen performed on these shores for many a year.

For a band that's been going for the better part of 40 years, age shows no sign of wearying them. If you look the word "showmanship" up in the rock & roll dictionary, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are going to be leering back out of the page at you. We've got to admit - when God gave rock & roll to them, he made the right choice.

KISS - BOOM TIME

(from tourdates.co.uk)
KISS have never been a band to think small, but they have rediscovered the joys of working like a struggling club band. Richard Hodkinson meets a re-energised Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley.

It’s hard to remember a time when KISS - as a brand, as an image, as a logo – did not serve as a universal shorthand for rock‘n’roll. Or at least for the excesses of rock‘n’roll.

For 35 years lazy magazine editors have been able to reach into the archive for pictures of Gene Simmons breathing fire or Paul Stanley pouting outrageously and the point is made: this is what rock music looks like.

And it might be reasonable to suppose that the men themselves conform to this archetype; that the past four decades have been an exercise in barely diluted hedonism lit by a thousand flash bombs, peopled by a million groupies and financed by uncounted piles of dollar bills.

KISS "CONCERTOGRAPHY" BOOK

The "KISS ALIVE II, 1998-2009" book is a "concertography" of Kiss' touring activities during that period with statistics and set lists; an expanded form of the online feature updated to include Kiss' Alive/35 North American tour. It also covers Paul Stanley and Ace Frehley solo activities.

That "concertography" book is the perfect addition to "Kiss Alive Forever".

ROCK AND ROLL ALL NITE & COLLECT EVERY DAY
(from antiqueweek)
[...] The gimmicky nature of KISS lent itself extremely well to merchandising. One of the more highly sought-after vintage KISS collectibles is the line of Mego dolls from 1978. In near mint condition, a boxed Ace, Gene, Paul, or Peter sells for around $250-$300, while nicely preserved loose figures routinely change hands for anywhere between $50 and $125.

Other vintage KISS collectibles of note include: a toy guitar ($250 loose, $1,000 boxed); an assortment of belt buckles (most ranging from $35-$125); Destroyer and Love Gun jigsaw puzzles ($25 each); a Tiger record player ($500 loose, $2,500 boxed); a Colorforms play set ($175); View-Master reels ($30); a View-Master Show Beam cartridge ($350); a KISS On Tour board game ($100); an AMT Custom Van model kit ($125-$150); a radio control van ($300 loose, $2,500 boxed); and a pair of mass market paperbacks: KISS ($40) by Robert Duncan and Headliners: KISS ($20) by John Swenson. KISS LIVE AT METRO ARENA, NEWCASTLE
(from Metal Express Radio)
It’s incredible to think that it’s been almost 18 long years since KISS last played in this neck of the woods during their naked faced Revenge tour and with the intervening years being marked by a sporadic festival show or London appearance, the Northern KISS Army were hungry for action.

With a Top 10 album under their belts with their first album in over a decade, Sonic Boom has revitalised the band who famously claimed that their recording days were over and with the promise of an all new stage show and a revamped set list boasting the old, the new and the new/old the stage was set for the band to deliver the goods.

KISS PROVE THEY LOVE IT LOUD AT METRO RADIO ARENA
(from Chronicle Live)
AS SOMEONE who has only ever appreciated KISS from afar, I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly state that they are phenomenal.

You’d think after almost 40 years of being a band they may have succumbed to perhaps slowing the pace a little in their live shows, but as the Sonic Boom Over Europe tour hit Newcastle’s Metro Radio arena yesterday, I can honestly say I’ve never been so entertained.

HOW I MADE IT: PAL STANLEY
(from
Walter Hamilton, Los Angeles Times)
The lead singer and guitarist for the rock band KISS learned the benefits of branding early in his career.

The gig: Lead vocalist and guitarist for the rock band KISS.

KISS persona: Starchild, recognizable by the painted black star framing his right eye.

Background: Born Jan. 20, 1952, as Stanley Bert Eisen in the Bronx, N.Y., to a furniture salesman and a nurse. Formed a short-lived band, Wicked Lester, with fellow New Yorker Gene Simmons in the early 1970s. They dropped that name and formed KISS with Peter Criss and Ace Frehley in January 1973.

(from Sheffield Telegraph)
By Graham Walker/Digital Editor
SEALED with a KISS! That was the star-studded Dave Kilner Night To Remember charity show when KISS rock legend Gene Simmons turned up - just to watch.
He was appropriately thanked with a big kiss from Dave's widow Shirley.

Gene, who had been rehearsing in the city ahead of his band's UK return at Sheffield Arena, showed up at the City Hall to watch his Def Leppard pals Joe Elliot and Rick Savage headline the concert.

NEW SONIC BOOM 2010 GUITAR PICKS
There are a lot of new guitar picks for the Sonic Boom over Europe tour 2010!
Eric has at least 3 different guitar picks. One says "geh kachen", which is probably a misprint and was supposed to say "geh kacken" (which is German and translates into something like "take a shit").
Paul also has at least 3 new picks, one seems to be a special city pick.
