CONDOLEEZA RICE ENLISTS IN KISS ARMY FAN CLUB
(from Yahoo News)
By MATTHEW LEE, Associated Press Writer
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - The Kiss Army fan club has an enthusiastic new recruit: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Rice was in the Swedish capital Thursday for an international conference on Iraq. Kiss had a sold-out concert to play Friday.

"I was thrilled," Rice said of her late-night encounter with Kiss frontman Gene Simmons and bandmates Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer in the executive lounge of the Sheraton Hotel where they signed autographs and handed out backstage passes and T-shirts to her staff.

"It was really fun to meet Kiss and Gene Simmons," she told reporters, noting that they seemed well-informed about current events. The band had asked if she could stop by after she finished dinner with the Swedish foreign minister and Rice readily agreed, she said.

Rice, a classically trained pianist, said she has eclectic musical tastes ranging from Beethoven to Bruce Springsteen.

Hard rockers such as Kiss are included in the mix, and Rice said her favorite Kiss tune is "Rock and Roll All Nite."

But, Rice conceded, she has never seen the band in concert.

KISS TO PLAY OUTDOOR CONCERT
(from Tahoe Daily Tribune)
Sara Thompson and Dan Thomas, sthompson@tahoedailytribune.com

Get ready to rock and roll all night Lake Tahoe, Kiss is coming to the South Shore.

John Koster, regional president of Harrah's Northern Nevada operations, made the announcement at the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority Board of Directors meeting today.

Koster said with the line-up this year, it definitely could be the best year for the Harveys Outdoor Concert Series.

Kiss will be playing August 30 in the Harvey’s Outdoor Arena.

The European leg of the Kiss Alive 35 World Tour this spring and summer wraps up with an appearance at the Graspop Metal Meeting on June 28 in Dessel, Belgium.

The tour returns to U.S. soil Aug. 4 with a stop at Sturgis, S.D.

Kiss (not an acronym) formed in New York City in January 1973 with Gene Simmons on vocals and bass, lead guitarist Ace Frehley, rhythm guitarist Paul Stanley, and Peter Criss on drums.

The band bridged metal and glam rock, and its live theatrics — replete with makeup, pyrotechnics, blood-spitting and Simmons’ tongue — catapulted Kiss to equal parts fame and notoriety.

Kiss albums have hit the gold mark 34 times to date, and the group has sold more than 80 million albums worldwide. The original lineup reunited in 1996 before Criss and Frehley left again. Simmons and Stanley remain in the current lineup, along with drummer Eric Singer and guitarist Tommy Thayer.

MARK LINET: "PETER WAS A NICE GUY!"
(from rockpages.gr)
We continue our year-long KISS special article with the 11th interview with a KISS-related figure.

This week we publish an interview with Mark Linet, the engineer of Peter Criss’ solo album in 1978! Here’s an excerpt:

Rockpages.gr: What do you remember mostly from Peter Criss as a person and from the whole recording experience with him?

Mark Linet: Nice guy as I recall. I think the guy who wrote the song "Beth" (Stan Penridge) visited one day. The other thing I remember is that it was that we had fans hanging around outside the studio gate wanting to see Peter. This was very unusual since the same studio had everyone from Van Halen to Neil Diamond recording there and we'd never had fans hanging around before that I can recall.

You can find the whole interview on:

KISS IN MOSCOW
About 15.000 people saw Kiss performing in Moscow yesterday with all their special effects except the platform where the band was lifted down at the beginning of the show. The ticket-prices were extremely high (100 Euros and more), but there were more people at the concert than at Ozzy or Aerosmith. They played 128 minutes the same set-list as the previous show in Riga. Here you can see some photos from the show. Because of the big success of the tour, the band supposedly wants to come back to Europe again next year (somilar to the 1996/97 Reunion tour).

KISS IN SOFIA
(from radiotangta.com)
"You wanted the best? You got the best! The hottest band in the world! Kiss!!!

These words shall be remembered for a long, long time by those 12-13 thousand fans at the Academic Stadium in Sofia, Bulgaria on May 16, 2008. The night we Bulgarians finally saw them for the first time ever live. Them - Kiss!

The visit of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer was discussed lengthily during the last few months. Hundreds were expecting it with thrill, a lot more – with wild enthusiasm... But let’s better try not to talk useless words and see what actually happened.

The real part of the evening began 15 minutes after 7 p.m. by the young Maryland-based quintet Cinder Road that accompanies Kiss through Europe. Mike Ruocco (vocals and guitar), Chris Shucosky (guitar), Pat Patrick (guitar), Nat Doegen (bass) and Mac Calvaresi (drums) gave an efficient start of the concert with their energetic, typical 80’s American hard rock a-la Bon Jovi... Maybe that was the main reason why many of the attendants did not get that impressed by this band’s performance. To put it short, for 40 minutes we listened to the songs off the current Cinder Road album, "Superhuman" (2007) – starting with the title track, going on with the singles "Should've Known Better" and "Get In Get Out", and finishing with the interpretation of Queen’s "We Will Rock You", which cause quite an excitement among the audience...

...however not as big as the excitement that arose at 8:35 p.m., when the huge black canvas with the Kiss logo was lifted, and in front of the fans they appeared – the hottest band in the world. The magnificent four stuck to almost everything we were expecting from a show that is part of their current Alive 35 World Tour 2008: Gene, Paul, Tommy and Eric were wearing their "Destroyer" (1976) costumes and make-up, and the main part of their set consisted of songs off their first three albums - "Kiss" (1974), "Hotter Than Hell" (1974) and "Dressed to Kill" (1975). In other words, what we got was the substance of the 1975 live audio-bestseller "Alive!".

After the great start with "Deuce" and "Strutter", Mr. Stanley made his first declaration of love to the Bulgarian audience. Whether impulsively or not, but until the end of the show he didn’t stop expressing his admiration to the fans at the Academic Stadium – in the end of the main set he eve declared Sofia “the new rock’n’roll capital”! Of course, a vivid band like Kiss wouldn’t please its fans with such stuff only – we witnessed Tommy Thayer’s guitar solo during "She", Eric Singer’s solo drumming in the middle of "100,000 Years", Gene Simmons’ notorious fire spitting at the end of "Hotter Than Hell", as well as picturesque fireworks supporting the last song of the main set, "Rock and Roll All Nite".

Actually, it was exactly "Rock and Roll All Nite" that started the part of the concert most of the people were waiting for – the hits part. Once again we witnessed the magic of thousands singing thewir favourite songs as one. Even the skeptics cannot deny that the atmosphere got wild under the sounds of "Shout It Out Loud", "Lick It Up" (featuring the starting riff of The Who’s "Won't Get Fooled Again"), "I Love It Loud", the total evergreen "I Was Made for Lovin' You", "Love Gun", and the closing "Detroit Rock City".

Yes, it’s true that the sound quality during Kiss’ performance wasn’t that good. It’s true that neither Paul nor Gene were at their best form regarding their vocal abilities. It’s true that three of the Alive 35 World Tour 2008 songs ("Firehouse", "Watchin' You" and "Rock Bottom") were spared. And it’s true that the supporting act could be spared, too. However it’s also true that all the negative stuff written in the last paragraph becomes irrelevant, having in mind that on May 16, 2008 Bulgaria got what we were waitng for 35 years – the hottest band in the world.

Words: Nicki Vassilev (photos comin' in a few hours at radiotangta.com)

KISS IN SOFIA
(from Lubomir Petrov)
This is not a review, just some facts about the show in Sofia:
A usual KISS concert in terms of -the well known show - but the emotional part.. no words to discribe it...!
No full KISS soundcheck (again)!
Eric Singer did the soundcheck with the bass and guitar techs!
No Lift-band riser for the opening!
No drum-riser!!!
The Show went great-the fans were crazy
The sound at the frst row (center) was crisp-but little distant..more from the guitar amplifires and band monitors than from the PM system-main speakers !!! Excelent sound from behind 4'th-5'th row and to the back of the venue!
No less than 15 000 people (maybe more- to be confirmed by the promoter)
Same setlist, but no Watchin You, no Firehouse, no Rock bottom!
Gene did not fly.
Paul did not fly too!
It's too many 'No's' but it didn't affect the show... I'm giving you just the fact

KISS DESTROYED VERONA!
(from www.fury-mag.com)
FURY! attended the KISS concert in the Arena di Verona in Italy and this was probably the most beautiful place they performed in their entire career. Being an ancient roman coloseum the Arena is still in use, mostly for opera performances. For this performance though the place was packed with 20000 crazy KISS fans.

KISS put on a marvelous show and rocked from beginning to end. And the crowd … well they were already excited on the square in front of the arena when the gates weren’t even open yet. They yelled and chanted KISS songs all the time creating a beautiful atmosphere. Inside the arena, right before the show, the crowd started a ‘wave’ like they were at a football game and during the show at some points the crowd was even louder than the band, standing, clapping and cheering the entire concert. You could tell from their faces KISS themselves loved the sight of it too.

The stagefloor was the floor which is normally being used for opera performances. This gave the band the opportunity to use the sides of the stage too, which they did very often. At one point Paul Stanley even sat down on the ancient stands of stone, right in front of the audience there. Due to this stagefloor they couldn’t use the elevators they normally use at the end of Rock And Roll All Nite. And there were some more difficulties which kept them from putting on an entire show with all the effects they normally use. Word got out the trucks with the stage attributes were being held at the border thus arriving at around 2 o’ clock. This may have been the cause of them just walking to the stage instead of coming up from the ceiling on a lightning rig. Also the center stage was missing so Paul didn’t fly during Love Gun. But this didn’t seem to bother the crowd at all. And it shouldn’t. This performance was memorable in many ways!

VERONA MEET & GREET
(from Alexander Zihlmann)
As a KISS fan and collector for almost 28 years know I bought tickets for about a dozen shows of their KISS Alive 35 European tour. Originally I planned to see KISS at the first four shows in Oberhausen, Munich, Vienna, and Verona. I already had the tickets and in fact I still have them...

As on the one hand I never met KISS (beside ex-members) but on the other hand know that a lot of less intensive but probably more aggressive or demanding fans had the chance to meet KISS backstage in the last years for free I wasn't sure if I should buy a Meet&Greet package at all. In last minute I decided yes but found out that Oberhausen and Munich were sold out so I decided to buy it for Verona.

It turned out to be my luck that these were sold out as I went ill and couldn't go to the shows in Oberhausen, Munich, and Vienna. In the morning before leaving for Verona I was shortly checking internet and was looking forward to the Meet&Greet as I read that the (sold out) Meet&Greet in Oberhausen had 25 people and was for about 45 Minutes, KISS signed as many items as you wanted (more or less).

When I arrived in Verona at the Check-in for the Meet&Greet I was informed that the Soundcheck, which I also booked, was cancelled. That's not a problem; I still can go later at another show (although it will cost more as when buying in the package...). We were informed to be back at 7:30 pm. At around 8:15 we were let in, all in a row for the picture with KISS; after that you had to hurry if you wanted an autograph. No organization, no controlling, no chance for more than just say "Hi". Anyway Kiss itself got attention that everyone got (in maximum -- not minimum!) one autograph... At 8:45 -- 30 minutes later it was all over -- but here in Verona there were almost 70 (!) people! How can it be that a sold out Meet&Greet has 25 people but a non sold out has 70 people?

Anyway after almost three decades of being a KISS fan and collector I got (or better will get -- I'm still waiting on the mail with the picture) my photo with KISS -- but was that worth that amount of money?

The show itself was OK, although they dropped a few songs and effects. I was in 6th row -- should have been great places but as of a very wide orchestra ditch we were quite far away from the stage.

All in all it wasn't that tour start as I planned or expected it but anyway this day I surely won't forget.

(from Fabio)
just come back, here my comments
M&G
Absolutely below par, two many people (about 50 persons) and definately not organized at all...the guys are kind but in that situation it's quite a good result to get 4 autographs, but it's impossible to chat with them...
The concert was simply great, but due to some health problem from Gene he did not perform the firebreathing stunt so no Firehouse and they dropped some tunes that should be sung by Gene (Watchin'you , Rock Bottom and of course Firehouse) for the rest same set list as previous concerts.
Paul did not fly due to the size of the Arena but he moved all around the stage and interacting with fans
Great pyros at the end of the ecores.
Eric was montrous and Tommy rocked
Overall a damn good show

MEET & GREET/SOUNDCHECK
There are plenty of stories and photos about the meet & greet in the Forum already, but here are the most important facts:
If you bought such a package, you should have received an e-mail with further instructions. It mentions a time when and where all the people will meet. It is usually around 4 pm at the box office, but the time varies from city to city.

So everybody will meet there at the box office. Someone from the Kiss Crew will give you a pass (silver writing for soundcheck and meet & greet, red writing for just meet & greet). You will also get a T-Shirt in your size. It is a nice black group shirt with no backprint. Then you will be told when and where to meet for the soundcheck or the meet & greet.

At the soundcheck cameras are allowed! So you can take pictures or video-tape.

At the meet & greet there are also cameras allowed. Everybody is allowed to get one autograph.
You will get into a room. Later the band will come and will pose with everyone in front of a black backdrop with the "Alive/35" logo on it. During this time you can take photos, but only without flash. There will be two photos taken per person. Within two weeks you should get a link to a page, where you can download your picture with the band. On this page you will be able to see also all the other photos from the other people as well.

Then it will become chaotic. Instead of getting everyone sign their stuff in an organised way, the band members will split up in different directions and it is up to everyone to hunt for them to get their stuff signed. Nobody checks, if you got your autograph already or not. You may be lucky to get all their autographs, but time is short.

On the way out everyone will get a pre-signed tourbook and a photo of the band.

If you have a soundcheck package, expect it to be delayed or cancelled, since the set-up of the satege takes longer than expected. In case it gets cancelled, you should be getting a refund.

KISS IN VIENNA
Kiss played for about 11.000 fans at the Stadthalle. It was well packed, but not sold out (the venue holds about 14.000 people). However, it was the biggest concert they ever had in Austria. The setup of the stage took too long, so the soundcheck had to be cancelled. In Munich the soundcheck was also delayed and the opening band had to cut their set short. They seem to have serious problems in setting up the stage in time. They might have to do the show in Verona also without a soundcheck.... the crew has a lot of work ahead on the rest of the tour...
The set-list was the same as the nights before.

KISS IN THE DUTCH PRESS
(from Kiss Kollector Online)
For the time being, the media in Holland are a little bit into KISS again - now that the band is finally touring Europe again. Some of the Dutch media even turned up at the press conference and the KISS concert in Oberhausen. Therefore, Eric Singer will be on one of Holland's most popular TV shows, the talkshow De Wereld Draait Door, this Monday. One of the items on the show is called De Jakhalzen and they interviewed Eric at the press conference in Oberhausen last Thursday.

Print media in Holland had been offered phone interviews with Tommy Thayer in the weeks before the tour kicked off, so expect some interviews with Tommy in newspapers and/or magazines overhere - including the magazines Fury! and Revolver (the latter will also include a small piece on KISS' very first show in Holland, at the RAI in Amsterdam back in 1976 - and they're even considering four different versions of their cover story). Newspaper AD will have a story on KISS in one of their upcoming editions (probably as part of their bigger weekend supplement).

Some of the big publications didn't accept the Tommy offer, so they refused the interview opportunity. That's why OOR magazine got to do a phoner with Paul Stanley (the 3 page article ended up in their June issue, which is available in stores already), and De Telegraaf did an interview with Gene Simmons in the USA. Since the interviewer of De Telegraaf also runs a new magazine, Off The Record, there will also be a KISS article/Gene interview in his magazine. So, make sure to keep an eye out on newsstand and bookstores in the next few weeks.

KISS PARTY IN MOSCOW
Since there are only 2 weeks left before the long-awaited, first-ever KISS visit to Moscow, the wave of KISSteria amongst the RuSSian fans is seems to grow, waiting for it's climax on the 24th of May! Just the week before the REAL THING, the only Russian KISS cover-band called Moscow Rock City is going to make some sort of warm-up for the fans, by performing 22 KISS KlaSSics (1974-1980 era).
One fact that may be interesting: Moscow Rock City made their stage debut at the 1st Russian KISS Convention, 24th of May+ 1998! So the upcoming KISS show is gonna be the greatest Anniversary celebration the band - as well as all the KISS fans - could ever imagine!
So let's KISS some more!

OBERHAUSEN REVIEWS
There are plenty of reviews and photos like these from user kisspidde in the Forum:

The most important facts here: The stage was similar to the Farewell Tour stage, but different lights. There was a black curtain with a big Kiss logo covering the stage. After the curtain fell, Kiss came down on a platfrom the top just like on the Farewell Tour.

Eric did not have any burning drumsticks. They were very loud and used a lot of pyros and confetti. Tommy shot two rockets out of his guitar during "Shock me", a third one seemed to fail. After he shot the rockets you could hear loud explosions. He also had another effect: he played with the guitar behind his head, while mirrors on the back of the guitars body reflected the spotlights.

In the middle of "Lick it up" they played an instrumental part of Whos "Won't get fooled again". Gene spit blood and flew during "I love it loud", Paul flew during  "Love Gun". There was a huge confetti-storm during "Rock and Roll all nite" and Gene spit fire during "Firehouse". The Arena was sold out with over 12.000 people attending.

Here's a short clip from the show: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=IXp7ilm3qSM

MY FAMILY
(from paulstanley.com/Family Circle magazine)

On stage Paul Stanley, singer and guitarist of the band KISS, sings about wanting to "rock and roll all night, and party every day." But this 56-year-old father of sons Evan, 13, and Colin, 1, would really rather have a good night's sleep. Give this rock star dad a round of applause.

By PATTY A. MARTINEZ

You've traded the superstar lifestyle of LA's Viper Room for the Diaper Room. What are some of your day-to-day duties?

At 6 A.M. I was up with Colin. I changed, dressed and fed him, then we played together and watched Baby Einstein DVD's. Mornings are my favorite time of day. And as soon as we're off the phone, I'll pick Evan up from school.

Sounds like you're and involved dad.

You have to be hands on. But I'm fortunate: When I'm not on tour I'm here seven days a week, 24 hours a day. I probably take on more of the load than most fathers. And, of course, my wife, Erin, is amazing. She's always there for the kids, making them feel special.

What are your house rules?

Bedtime is an important routine. We try to get Evan to sleep by 9 P.M. Having respect for everyone else in the house is also key, as is maintaining good grades in school.

Do you and Erin help Evan with his homework?

He's an excellent student - especially in science - but we do our part. I quiz him for tests; Erin is the whiz when it comes to math.

Which rule is Evan most likely to break?

He always wants to stay up past his bedtime. If I told him he could stay up until midnight for a special occasion, he'd try for 12:30.

What's the hardest question you've had to answer as a parent?

When Evan was very young he said to me, "Dad, if God is inside everyone, why are there bad people?"

And how did you respond?

I told him, "Because some people don't listen to what he's saying." But I admit it took me a little while to come up with that.

You're a painter as well as a musician. Do you see a lot of creativity in your sons?

Oh, yeah. I finger paint with Colin, and Evan is a phenomenal guitarist - he can outplay me! But he is very much his own person, and I am grateful for that. My wish for him and Colin is that they'll make their own tracks in life without walking in my shadow.

What's your idea of a perfect day with your family?

It doesn't take much to make us happy - going to the mall, playing instruments at Guitar Center, sitting down to dinner together, giving Colin a bath - it's all great. I also like to spend time alone with Erin to recap the day and revel in how lucky we are to have this family.

Most teens think parents are embarrassing. What have you done to mortify Evan? It's a little different when you're a rock star. You're pretty cool no matter how you slice it.

ACE DOESN'T SEE KISS REUNION IN THE FUTURE
(from Blabbermouth)
Gene Triplett of NewsOK.com recently conducted an interview with original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

On the possibility of a KISS reunion with him on guitar:

"Uh, I don't see it happening. I never say never, but I just turned 57. I don't see myself getting up onstage with tights on and putting on the makeup and jumpin' around like, you know, a kid again. Because I don't physically think I can do it.

"On the last reunion tour, I saw a couple of videos. I think we looked a little tired, you know? I think it's maybe better to put that segment of KISS to sleep."

On his current solo tour:

"The first show I did in over five years was last year, Halloween, New York City. Played the Hard Rock Café. And I had so much fun doin' that, I booked four more shows on the East Coast at the end of December and then, you know, we put together this real tour."

On his as-yet-untitled new album:

"There's some current songs, some songs I wrote this past year, some songs I wrote as far back as 10, 12 years ago. It's great because I had a lot of different material to choose from. Probably had 20 songs. So I'm gonna pick the best dozen."

On the fact that he no longer harbors any hard feelings toward Gene Simmons or Paul Stanley, despite some harsh words exchanged in the past:

"(KISS) was a big part of my life and, uh, most of the times were good so, you know. I'm just kind of ‘that was then and this is now,' you know? ... The most important thing is, if you're just happy with what you're doin' with your life, that can make things so much better. I'm havin' more fun than I've had in years. I'm doin' it my way."

JASON EBS
(from rockpages.gr)
We continue our year-long KISS special article with the 10th interview with a KISS-related figure.

This week we publish an interview with the last singer of CRISS, Jason Ebs. Here’s an excerpt where Jason talks about the unreleased CRISS songs:

Rockpages.gr: During your presence in Criss, the band moved towards an even more modern (almost grunge) direction with such songs as: “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah”, “Take Time”, “Burning Desire” and others that unfortunately never saw the light of day, at least officially. Were these songs considered for a second Criss album? Are there many leftover songs?

Jason Ebs: Hmmm, good question. Yeah, we were headed in a really cool direction with the music and vibe of the band. “My reality/The shooter (Yeah, Yeah, Yeah)” was one of our ideas for the single on the record that we were getting ready to begin –we actually recorded 4 songs in the studio and got rough mixes of them. We began writing almost every day that we weren’t on the road in the preparation for the second album. We were pretty close to beginning the recording process, but the record company was dragging their feet and the KISS reunion was starting to formulate, so unfortunately we never got to finish the record.

We had a bunch of songs like “Knockin’ down the door”, “Seeds”, “The shooter”, “Adalyne”, “Take Time”, “Down”, “Zig-Zag”, “Golden Arm” and many more.

You can find the whole interview on:

KISS IN OBERHAUSEN
(from Diamant Noir)
During the KISS press conference that took place in Oberhausen a few hours ago, Paul declared, among other things, that the band will mainly play their classics, including hits like "Rock And Roll All Nite" and "I Was Made For Lovin' You". "New songs couldn't compete with our old songs," said Stanley, "but we guarantee the fans that it's worth the admission fee." He promised the "biggest and best show" KISS has ever played!

Does anyone here sing karaoke? This site has 4  Kiss songs you can sing too. It's run by the Sims video game. I'm not really into that game but I think this site is cool. The Kiss songs are Detroit Rock City, Rock and Roll All Night, Shout it out Loud and Domino. There are other groups you can sing too as well. Does anyone here have what it takes? Here is the link to the Kiss songs. Enjoy!

WILL ACE FREHLEY MAKE A GUEST APPEARANCE WITH KISS AT DOWNLOAD?
(from classicrockmagazine.com)
The prospect of both Kiss and Ace Frehley playing the Download festival on the same day – June 13 – has raised a tantalising question among the Kiss community.

To wit:

Could Kiss mainmen Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley be persuaded to allow their former guitarist to guest with them on stage at the festival? Like, during an encore on something?

Classic Rock's Geoff Barton recently quizzed Simmons and Stanley about this very subject.

Read on…

Paul Stanley:
Would I ask Ace get get up on stage with us? No. I’d certainly invite him to watch the show, but appear on stage? No way. There are four members of Kiss. Always have been. Tommy Thayer is our guitarist now. That’s the way it is. So there’s no room for a fifth guy on stage, not even Ace.

Gene Simmons:
I actually called around and asked the promoters if Ace’d like to play on the bill. I love Ace dearly, he’s just a pure character, a true rock’n’roll rebel spirit. Unfortunately his worst enemy has always been Ace.

Ace should have tens of millions of dollars. And of course I can hear you saying in the background: "Is that all that’s important?" Well, it would be nice, wouldn’t it? It would be nice to be filthy rich after putting in 35 years of playing your axe, instead of going around playing in clubs and trying to make ends meet. It’s a sort of rock’n’roll tragedy, if you will. But everybody wishes Ace the best. I certainly do.

But to quote Ace, the reason he quit the band and left touring was that he was ready to commit suicide. Not once, not twice. Often. Not everybody is designed to be on the road. Hopefully Ace has surrounded himself with people who won’t let him get away with any shit. "I’m just going to the bathroom to comb my hair." "No, no, no, you’re not going by yourself." Once an alcoholic, you’re an alcoholic for life. The same goes for drug addiction. Ace is going to be a drug addict and an alcoholic for the rest of his life, and every day I hope he fights the fight and wins, because he deserves a better life.

To answer your question about inviting Ace on stage at Download… probably not. It would raise the wrong sorts of messages. But he certainly deserves credit, every bit as much as I do or anybody else does, for starting the band. No one would ever take that away from him.

But this is the Olympics, baby. When the fans pay their hard-earned money they’re not interested in excuses. "I clipped my toenails, I’m sorry, I forgot to tie my shoelaces…" nobody gives a shit. They want you to get out there on stage and kick it out. If you can’t cut it, get off the team.

As far as Gene Simmons is concerned, I certainly belong there. "Based on what?" you ask. Based on history.
