INTERVIEW WITH BRUCE KULICK
(from stageshottz.com)
By William Simpson
Have you ever wondered what guitar legend Bruce Kulick, has been up to since he left KISS? StageShottz Magazine decided to find out. When Kiss decided to put the make-up back on, Kulick decided he did not want to “play” Ace (Frehley), so he decided to leave the band; he has been very busy ever since. Currently touring with Grand Funk Railroad, Kulick has formed a band call Union, been in the Eric Singer Project, and a large part of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp. He is also in the process of finishing up his soon-to-be-released third solo CD. We recently caught up with Bruce on the road.

"GENE SIMMONS FAMILY JEWELS" SNEAK PEAK
(from Lauren Sammak)
Happy Friday! I wanted to be in touch with a sneak peek clip and some information about the two new episodes of “Gene Simmons Family Jewels” airing this Sunday starting at 9pm on A&E.

At 9pm, A&E will air “Economic Stimulus”, where Gene will ring the bell at the New York Stock Exchange and spread the word about investing in America and Shannon does some spending of her own when she gets addicted to late night infomercials.

Next up is another new episode, “Slumber Party”. When Shannon falls ill it is up to Gene to keep an eye on Sophie and her 5 hyper friends, fend off a hoard of horny boys trying to crash the party and track down one bad girl who sneaks out for a little rendezvous.

Here is a clip from “Slumber Party”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQYtUe--l6U .

FILM ARCHIVE PROJECT UNCOVERS GOLDMINE FOR KISS FANS
Fan filmed footage of KISS performing in New Orleans, LA on December 4, 1976 during the Rock and Roll Over tour was recently shared on YouTube by a small group of die hard KISS fans who are working to preserve the 8mm film legacy of the band. This footage has been in collectors circles for nearly 3 decades, but now the actual audio of the same concert has been added, giving it new life.

"It all started years ago when we discovered KISS were indeed performing Acrobat on the Long Beach 1974 footage." says Nick Vivid, CEO of MegaPlatinum Entertainment LLC and frontman for NYC rock band FRAULEIN. "We synced audio to it and in turn helped contribute to Kissology. We're really proud of that. These silent films of KISS in the 1970's may not seem like much on the surface, but when sound is added, we sometimes uncover findings of major historical significance. Who knows how long it would have taken for someone to discover the band was performing Acrobat on that film had we not lead the charge?"

That historical significance is being uncovered in real time. Along with a small collective of die hard fans, Nick recently created the unofficial KISS 8mm Film Project in an effort to properly archive all existing 8mm films of the band, sync audio to them, and find any possible rarities in the process. So far, nearly 40 films have been uncovered, but the work doesn't end there. "There is so much misinformation about these films and we've had to hunt in strange places to find upgrades and masters - which we're still in the process of doing. We have to really do our homework to figure out what's what at
times."

Thanks to people like Curt Gooch and Jeff Suhs, co-authors of the book Kiss Alive Forever, the workload has been a little easier. "Curt and Jeff did such an amazing job with that book and it's helped tremendously in our efforts to make this project as historically accurate as possible. Hopefully our research helps them, as well."

Along with the aforementioned "Acrobat" film, the collective has discovered a snippet of KISS performing "Mainline" in 1975. "We have found some interesting things while doing this project and are in the process of discovering more. Some of the rarities are on tapes that have been in fans' collections for decades. There may be a film out there of KISS performing Hard Luck Woman on the Rock n Roll Over Tour or Kissin' Time from 1974. You never know."

The collective is hoping that KISS will be interested in the project when it's done and that other groups and organizations, such as Bill Sagan and Wolfgang's Vault, will be interested in having the team work on other bands' silent films. "We've been able to really make these seem as real as possible, even if the audio isn't from the same show. We've got a very talented group here and have a proven track record of adding value to silent archival films that already exist."

The collective is also hoping other fans can help upgrade films, provide missing details, or come forth with canisters of films that may be in attics or otherwise collecting dust. Fans are encouraged to contribute to the project by contacting kiss8mm@megaplatinum.net

You can also visit the Youtube page for the unofficial KISS 8mm Film Project at http://www.youtube.com/kiss8mmfilms

DAVID SPINDEL: "I WISH I HAD SAVED THE NOTES FROM 'ALIVE'"
(from rockpages.gr)
We continue our KISS special feature with the 30th interview of a KISS-related figure. This week, David Spindel, the famous photographer of “The Elder” and not only…Here’s an excerpt:

Rockpages.gr:
How did you get the job for doing the artwork for "The Elder? Was it someone from the KISS management that conducted you?

David Spindel:
I worked for an advertising agency named Howard Marks. Dennis Woloch was the art director. He asked me to create numerous items for Kiss. I wish I had saved the notes from Kiss from the album Alive. I gave them to a kid in my neighborhood after I finished the photos.

Rockpages.gr:
Have you worked with any other band before your job with KISS? How different it was the “Elder” cover in comparison with your previous or (why not) future artworks?

David Spindel:
I did do a few photos for a group called STARZ. Other than those I didn’t do any other bands. I did photograph The Village People when they were attempting to make a comeback. I still have the photos. In the early 60’s I worked as an assistant in a studio that did many record albums. It was a time consuming event to find the table for the cover. Other than that fact, creating the photographs were a piece of cake. The door was built by a model maker.

DITO GODWIN

(from rockpages.gr)
We continue our KISS special feature with the 29th interview of a KISS-related figure. This week, Dito Godwin, the producer of “Cat #1”…Here’s an excerpt:

Rockpages.gr:
In 1994, CRISS released their first (and as it turned out last) full-length album that you also produced. Peter has stated that this was his best recording experience in years. What do you remember from that work in the studio?

Dito Godwin:
So much…(laughs) First of all, Peter, in his two previous solo records, didn’t play drums on all the songs. That was the big difference with “Cat #1” where he played everything and did a brilliant job. Another thing that really stands out is the fact that in 1994 there was a major earthquake in Los Angeles and Peter was really upset. We established a great relationship…we were like brothers. To tell you the truth, up until the point that we got to work together, I haven’t realized how great Peter was as a singer…

Rockpages.gr:
Many people, including Gene Simmons, have said that Peter has a unique voice but he sings out of tune…

Dito Godwin:
No, that’s not true at all. You got to understand that in 1994 there were no Pro-Tools or the aid of the advanced computer technology like nowadays. Peter did not sing out of tune!

NEW CASABLANCA RECORDS INSIDERS BOOK COMING THIS FALL

bookCasablanca.jpg (24941 Byte)And Party Every Day: The Inside Story Of Casablanca Records, a 300+ page hardcover biography will be released this fall through Backbeat/Hal Leonard Books. This is the first time a full-length book has been published on the legendary 1970s record label and its enigmatic founder Neil Bogart. Casablanca was home to iconic hard rock acts KISS and Angel, as well as several of the decade's most visual and influential artists like Parliament, the Village People and Donna Summer.

And Party Every Day was written by Larry Harris, former Casablanca Vice President, who co-owned and co-founded the infamous record label with Bogart. Harris shares credit with co-authors Curt Gooch and Jeff Suhs, whose critically-acclaimed 2002 publication KISS Alive Forever is widely regarded as the most authoritative book ever written on the band.

With Harris's unique perspective, the world will finally gain a first-hand glimpse inside Casablanca, the record label which discovered KISS and was the living embodiment of the 1970s and the hedonistic, sex- and drug-filled Bacchanal that defined the Me Decade. The story of Casablanca Records is a thrilling three-act drama that perfectly captures the American Dream. On nothing more than a whim and the momentum of Neil Bogart's unstoppable enthusiasm, Casablanca launched in 1973. A mere five years later, Casablanca was the hottest record label in the world. In the pages of And Party Every Day, you'll walk the halls of Casablanca's Sunset Boulevard casbah, past mounds of cocaine and empty Quaalude bottles, and watch from the front row as Casablanca carefully orchestrated the record industry to its designs, successes, and ultimate demise.

In keeping with the Casablanca philosophy of "always give the fans something more," And Party Every Day will contain over 30 never-before-seen images and a heavily annotated Casablanca discography/videography section. The book will also become one of the very first publications to be promoted online featuring unreleased vintage film and video clips.

The owners of the Casablanca label, Universal Music Group, have even made available the classic Casablanca logo and artwork for the cover via a first-of-its-kind licensing deal. Several additional co-promotes with prospective major media vendors are being considered. Official And Party Every Day Twitter and Web pages will be launched in the coming weeks, along with a YouTube channel.

And Party Every Day: The Inside Story Of Casablanca Records' cover art will be released later this week when it dons the cover of the prestigious Hal Leonard Group's 2009 Fall Catalog.

GENE SIMMONS SELLS HIS KIDNEY STONE FOR CHARITY

(from hollyscoop.com/Bridget Daly)
We’ve heard of people donating their kidneys before, but kidney stones are something we wouldn’t wish on anyone! But Gene Simmons has found a way to turn the awful experience that kidney stones are into a positive thing.

The Kiss star has just sold his kidney stone for $15,000 after listing it on eBay. He recently suffered from the ailment, and decided to try and use it to make a little cash.

And before you go knocking the idea, you should know that it was all in the name of charity! Gene says, "I passed a kidney stone and I put it on eBay for charity. (I got) $15,000."

We don’t know who in their right mind would want something like that as a souvenir, but at least it was for a good cause
