KISSOLOGY VOL. 2
(from Billboard.com)
NEW YORK (Billboard) - Kiss will follow up its wildly successful 2006 DVD box set, "Kissology: Volume One, 1974-1977," on August 14 with a second volume chronicling 1978-1991.

"It's fantastic that 'Volume One' of 'Kissology' has done huge numbers, but does it surprise me? No, not at all," Kiss guitarist Tommy Thayer tells Billboard.com. "This is Kiss in its early raw form, four guys with the hunger and fire, aspiring to take on the world. All this great footage is finally available and it's exciting."

"Volume Two," to be distributed via VH1 Classic Records, will be comprised of three DVDs and a fourth disc that will vary by retailer. The first disc will feature a news special on the band from 1978 and an infamous 1979 interview with Tom Snyder, with other elements still pending, according to Kiss' Web site.

The second disc shows Kiss in transition, as it features the last promo video to with original drummer Peter Criss ("Shandi"). His replacement, Eric Carr, is behind the kit for a complete November 1980 concert at Australia's Sydney Showground. Also included are the only live renditions of material from the strangest studio album to bear the Kiss logo, "(Music From) The Elder," taped on the late-night show "Fridays" in 1982.

Disc three chronicles Kiss' comeback via a mammoth outdoor gig in Rio de Janeiro from June 1983, one of its last in makeup. Also included is Kiss' infamous "unmasking" on MTV from later that year, a handful of performances from the Lick It Up and Crazy Nights tours and a full 1990 show from Detroit.

Asked why "Volume 2" doesn't include any complete shows from the Lick It Up or Asylum tours, Thayer explains, "We chose the best songs from those concerts. Remember, the 'Volume Two' DVD is over seven hours long and from tour to tour, many of the same songs are played, so you have to pick the choice songs and moments without being too repetitive. When you create a DVD package there are time considerations -- you can only physically put so much on a DVD disc, and each volume of 'Kissology' is designed in advance to be a three-disc set."

GENE SIMMONS ON "THE HOUR"
(from www.cbc.ca)
Throughout his rock career, Gene Simmons, the KISS bassist, became famous for a number of things.
Like, spitting out blood. Belching fire. And of course, that long, very long tongue.
Well, he's also gained a reputation for being a pretty savvy marketing guy. Along with all the business ventures he's done with the band. He has a marketing company, a record company, an audio visual company. He's published a magazine, called Gene Simmons Tongue.
He's managed recording careers, for people such as Liza Minnelli.
There's a clothing line. He's written a couple of books. He's produced and acted in films and TV shows. Hell, he even has his own postage stamp.
He's got another venture underway.

See the interview.

PeterCriss2007.jpg (12375 Byte)10 QUESTIONS FOR.... PETER CRISS
(from www.goldminemag.com via babydriver)
Susan Sliwicki
There’s so much more to Peter “The Catman” Criss than the layer of black and white stage makeup that he wore as the drummer and a founding member of the legendary rock band KISS. He hates it when people make illegal music downloads. He’s a voracious reader. He’s an aspiring author. He’s an actor, probably best known for his role on the HBO prison drama “Oz.” And then, of course, there is Peter’s life’s passion: music. His latest record, One for All, drops July 26. read

INTERVIEW WITH ERIC SINGER

(from www.kissarmyaustralia.com)
Q1. As a kid in Cleveland, what made you happy?

I remember muscle cars, buying records, going to concerts, swimming at the beach in the summer (Lake Erie) and jamming with friends at parties in their basements !

Q2. When did it register in your own mind, that for you, drumming was more then just a past-time?

When I got divorced and got serious by moving to California in 1983

Q3. In '83 when you packed up your station wagon, what song was on the radio as you hit LA?

There wasn't a song on the radio but there was a song in my head ! California Dreaming

Q4. Do you remember your first professional gig and what was it like?

Well, I started in my father's band at 14 yrs old. My 1st touring gig was 1984 w/Lita Ford. It was surreal ! I remember driving up to the San Diego Sports Arena and seeing the name on the marquee and realising that my dreams were about to become real !!

Q5. You've worked with many great musicians over the years. Who has left the greatest impression or has given the best advice?

Brian May, he is the most gracious, compassionate guy I have ever met. And a genius musician needless to say...

Q6. What gives you joy in life apart from playing and creating great music?

Seeing children laugh or smile... there is nothing better in the world !

Q7. I heard you talking to Glenn Klausner on radio recently. It was a great interview that showed your shining heart. You spoke about the transition of going from a fan to a peer of the people you have worked with. Even so, are there moments where you are still in awe of their talent?

Of course, I will always be a fan of music and all the bands that influenced me. It is the soundtrack to my life all these great bands and records...

Q9. In the same interview, you spoke about how to some degree, we are all connected and I agree. Why do you think that people caught up in so-called status ladders and are hesitant to reach out to one another these days?

Greed. As long as we have selfishness and greed there will always be separation between mankind. I don't like to preach or get political but I think we all need to stop and rethink our place in the world sometimes...

Q10. Who are the people you look to for inspiration?

My family, blood IS thicker than water and those are the people who usually love you no matter what. I have also met some special people who have inspired me alot over the past few years. CW you know who you are

Q11. Who would you like to work with in the future, if your ultimate wish could be granted?

Any Beatles, Led Zep members, Jeff Beck, Mick Jagger, David Bowie....

Q12. Back to the present, you're on the "Psycho Drama Tour" with Alice Cooper now. How has that been going?

We just started in South America and now we are in Europe on our way to OZ ! Going great so far. We have a new guitarist (Jason Hook) and a new show so I think the fans Down Under will like what we have to bring.

Q13.You're all coming to Australia soon as well. Are you looking forward to seeing us again?

Yes I am, I luv OZ and enjoy every trip down there... Hope to also bring ESP back again soon.

Q14. I hear you're an avid timepiece collector. Have you made room in your suitcase for more watches?

You mean on my wrist ? LOL I have a sickness but it is better than drinking or drugs don't you think ?

I am always on the lookout for more pieces and can always make room on my wrist.

Q15. Before I let you go is there anything you'd like to say to the fans? Messages of love, hints on what you're doing next...stuff like that? *smile*

I really am blessed that people take an interest in anything I do ! That is something that I have always had a hard time realising. For this I thank you. I hope to see many familiar faces in Australia and look forward to some great shows in some great places... Peace/Love Eric

PAUL STANLEY SOLO DVD INFO

(from www.paulstanley.com)
Fans anxiously awaiting news regarding Paul Stanley's upcoming DVD release of the concert film 'Paul Stanley - Live To Win Live!, filmed during Paul's US Tour late last year will be excited to learn that the movie was completed a few weeks ago in Chicago by Director Louis Antonelli & his team.

The massive, 14 camera production, which features Paul's scorching performance at Chicago's House Of Blues on November 6th was 'a labor of love for all involved in its creation' Antonelli stated. The feature film has a running time of close to two hours, and includes a wealth of bonus materials including Director D.P. Carlson's dynamic making of documentary, 'Paul Stanley - Live To Dream!'

Antonelli went on to say, 'I've worked with many outstanding artists during my long career, but Paul is definitely in a class by himself! He is a consummate artist, gentleman, and has a warm spirit that brings out the very best in everyone who works with him!' Lou also shared with PaulStanley.com some heartfelt words when asked to talk about the complex process of making the film, 'I had a terrific crew of dedicated professionals who gave their all, with many fondly expressing to me during the production what Paul Stanley and his music has meant to their lives - all I can say right now is this shared feeling really comes across on the screen!'

FANS LINE UP TO MEET GUITARIST FOR KISS

(from MyrtleBeachOnline.com)
Band memorabilia popular at one-year-old coffee house
By Travis Tritten - The Sun NewsAceinMyrtleBeach2007-06-16.jpg (37876 Byte)

He's the spaceman in what fans call the greatest band in the universe.
Iconic guitarist Ace Frehley touched down Saturday at Broadway at the Beach for KISS Coffee House's first anniversary.
Hundreds of fans with KISS paraphernalia, make-up and tattoos waited in line to see the '70s group's guitarist.
Some traveled from across the country and paid $150 to share a moment with Frehley, who signed autographs and hugged his fans.

"I never thought [KISS] would be that big. It was just something we threw together," said Frehley, who designed the band's famous insignia. "It's a
phenomenon."

Jennifer Wood drove from Pensacola, Fla., and paid for a meeting and album-signing with her favorite guitarist.
"He's mysterious. You don't see him very often," said Wood, who kept watch of the coffee house Web site and bought her VIP pass the day the tickets went on sale.

It was Frehley's first visit to the one-year-old coffee house, which is adorned with KISS memorabilia and concert video.
After a year and a winter overhaul, the shop is doing brisk business, said owner Brian Galvin.
"Merchandise is a much bigger piece of our business than we anticipated," he said.

Despite the long line of fans waiting to get in Saturday, most of the shop's patrons aren't diehard KISS fans and come in first for the coffee, Galvin said.
But the shop has gotten a boost from KISS bandmates Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, who have both made appearances and also drew big crowds of fans over the past year.

Frehley, who will release a new album this fall, said it's not his first trip to Myrtle Beach. He came to the beach as a child with family.
"I used to go crabbing here as a kid with my uncle," he said.

The image of Ace Frehley crabbing is a world apart from how many of his fans see him - a spaceman persona with silver stars for eyes and massive platform boots moving through a cloud of stage fog.

"Ace Frehley to me is the greatest guitar player that's been put on this planet from another planet," said Ben Katzman, who traveled 12 hours from his home in Miami Beach, Fla.

For his part, Frehley said he is perplexed by the adoration.
"I'm the luckiest guy in the world. I thank God every day," Frehley said.

BRUCE KULICK TALKS ABOUT KISSOLOGY II

(from Bruce Kulick on kissonline.com)
I do have some news on the upcoming KISSology 2 DVD; it;s really going to be incredible. I recently got a sneak preview of some of it. A couple of the guys from MTV came over and I recorded a commentary track for a couple of the concerts that I appeared on. The first KISSology went from 1974 to 1977. KISSology 2 picks up in 1978 and goes to 1995 for the reunion. So basically it starts on the solo records, and goes into the Vinnie Vincent era, taking off the makeup, then on to the time I joined the band. Some of the concerts featured are from the Creatures of the Night tour and the Hot in the Shade tour, and they're really well shot. So much better than the bootlegs out there.
