I WAS A VIP
(from Anthony Johnson)
This is Anthony Johnson just getting back from my trip from Myrtle Beach for the KISS Coffee House Grand Opening. I was one of the four lucky winners of the Kissonline Coffee With KISS Contest. When I arrived I went to the KISSonline table set up in front of the entrance and signed in and received my VIP passes for myself and my guest. We entered the Coffee House at 5:45 PM and were treated with gifts and free coffee from the owner Brian Galvin who I must say is a really nice guy. We had our own tables set up and as myself and the other VIP guest were getting to know each other we heard this roar from the crowd outside so I peeked outside at the thousands of fans and noticed Doc McGee, Gene Simmons, and Paul Stanley coming towards the entrance. I couldn't believe they showed up almost two hours before they were originally scheduled. Paul entered first and was really impressed of how everything was set up and Gene was really looking everything over and also seemed impressed.

Next they went behind the counter and did interviews for CNN, Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, TV Guide Channel, E News, VH-1, and a slew of other programs. The other contest winners and myself were allowed to sit there just off camera and watch every interview and promo they did. And let me tell you there were some funny outtakes and bloopers that will probably never be seen.
While Gene and Paul were being filmed for all the media outlets Paul's son Evan was sitting next to me and I must say this kid is a special guy, well mannered, and brilliant. I really enjoyed talking to Evan and getting to know him, and Evan is really looking forward to having a new baby brother or sister soon.

After the press were gone the rest of the VIP guests were able to mingle with Gene and Paul more freely and I have to say they were more gracious and friendly than I thought they would be. They really took their time signing all the items that fans like myself brought and took the time to take photos with us all. After our time with Gene and Paul it was time to let the crowd outside in. I looked at my watch and it was 8:05 and I realized I had just spent about an hour and a half with two of my childhood heroes and will probably never have this chance again. When I was in their presence I couldn't stop thinking of all those old vintage pictures from magazines and all those classic videos that showed thousands of screaming fans, their pictures on the lunch boxes, all the fights I had to endue from older students from my school when I was a kid that picked on me for liking KISS and here I was with these two legends in front of me shaking my hand and talking directly to me eye to eye.....that made every punch I received for being a KISS fan as a kid all worth it.
After I left the Coffee House I walked past the enormous line of fans waiting outside and many had been there since early morning withstanding the heat all day. In the crowd I saw many old friends and familiar faces I've seen at other KISS concerts or Expos, like Leigh AKA the Goddess of Thunder from the VH-1 Fanclub fame and she is also the bass player for the tribute band Black Diamond. There were fans there from every age group.

When the doors of the Coffee House were officially opened that night confetti was shot out onto the crowd and the roar of the fans could be heard loud and clear and probably for miles around
Later that night CHRISTINE SIXTEEN and the tribute band KISS ARMY took to the stage next to the Coffee House and played a rocking set. People were everywhere checking out these two bands, even non KISS fans were really getting into it. If I remember correctly it was around 10:00 when a huge fireworks display started going off and that lasted for a good non stop 10 minutes.
Just as I was about to give in and go home I walk past the KISS Coffee house and noticed Gene and Paul were still inside signing items for all the fans that had showed up. I was really surprised because I knew Paul was supposed to have been on a flight a few hours before. I stopped and asked one of their security guys how much longer Gene and Paul were going to be there and I was told, "We weren't supposed to still be here, but Paul said he can reschedule his flight and the KISS Army has always been there for him and he's staying and going to be there for his fans now." I thought that was awesome because originally when I found out I was going to meet them I was told I would have about 30 or 40 minutes with them and only the first thousand people in line would get to come in and shake their hands and be rushed through. Instead I got to spend over an hour and a half with them and over two thousand got in and got to meet Gene and Paul and get items signed for free. You can't beat that.

To all the KISS fans out there, if you ever get a chance to go the KISS Coffee House I know you will enjoy it and I know you will love the KISS memorabilia hanging on the walls. There are old costumes of the original four members, some of the makeup kits members used on tour, Paul's Silvertone guitar, Gene's Axe bass, one of Gene's bloody towels, Gene's dragon boots, Paul's boots he wore on the Psycho Circus tour, and a few other items that are all encased in full view for all to enjoy.
In closing I have to thank Keith Leroux, photographer Sergeant Al from KISSonline, Brian Galvin and staff, Doc McGee, Gene Simmons, and Paul Stanley for making this one of the best days of my life that I'll never forget.

KISS COFFEEHOUSE OPENING
(from DigitaXMen/Kiss Forum)
Wow. After 30 yrs I finally met my hero's at the coffeehouse grand opening. We arrived at 8 am and stood in line 12.5 hrs to see Gene and Paul at 8:30 pm. It was packed with people!! There was 2 severe thunderstorms yesterday and between them was some serious heat and humdity. Gene and Paul were very friendly. Other than the weather it was truly wonderful. KissArmyRules did a fantastic tribute show. Christine Sixteen a Canadian All-Girl Tribute was there also, unforunately there were no pyrotechincs with the show. The info given was completely wrong about how the events were to be played out. Kiss DID give autographs. You were alllowed 1 autograph from Gene and Paul. You could take pics of them just not together with them as they stood behind the counter of the Coffeehouse.
[read the rest and see photos from the opening]

SIMMONS AND WARD PRESS RELEASE
(from Kissonline)
Georgeann Walsh Ward, a former girlfriend of Gene Simmons in the 1970s, and Mr. Simmons announced today that the parties have reached an amicable resolution of Ms. Ward's suit for defamation in connection with a documentary entitled “When KISS Ruled the World.” The resolution involves no monetary payment to Ms. Ward and recognition by her that Mr. Simmons played no role in the production, editing or selection and inclusion of Ms. Ward's photographs in the documentary. In the lawsuit, filed in January 2005, Ms. Ward alleged that certain implications concerning her were created by the juxtaposition of Mr. Simmons' commentary about himself and photographs that included Ms. Ward. In response, Mr. Simmons specifically denied that any of the alleged implications could be reasonably understood from the documentary.

In connection with the resolution, Mr. Simmons notes. "I value my early relationship with Ms. Ward and wish her well. My quotes in the documentary that Ms. Ward took issue with were solely about me, not Ms. Ward or anyone else." The parties are pleased that the action has been amicably resolved.

KISS COFFEEHOUSE
(from DigityXMan/Kiss Forum)
I made a first hand look at the coffeehouse today. I have some pics here to post. I spoke with one of the guys working and he let us in to get pics of the building inside. This guy was super cool. We didn't even ask to go in, he just opened the door and asked "Would you like to come and take some pics?". I said ARE YOU KIDDING? LOL. If anyone knows about Wafflehouse restaurant's here in the US and how they are set up, the coffeehouse is the same ...like size and layout of the building. It's not very big. The guy told us there is no way the coffeehouse will open on the 17th as planned. He said next Friday for sure with the grand opening on the 27th. They still don't have the tables and chairs and electrical power to the building yet and hang the pictures and guitars...etc. We had the pleasure of meeting MissMadness here on the forum.

CONVICTION UPHELD IN DEATH OF FORMER KISS GUITARISTS EX-WIFE
(from www.courant.com)
HARTFORD, Conn. -- A man convicted of killing a call girl who was once married to former Kiss guitarist Vinnie Vincent had his appeal rejected Wednesday by the state Appellate Court.

Gregory McArthur, formerly of Hartford, maintained that two drug dealers were probably responsible for the slaying of AnnMarie Cusano in 1998.

On appeal, he argued there was not enough evidence to justify his manslaughter conviction, and that a judge improperly barred statements about one of the drug dealers from closing arguments.

But the court found there was sufficient evidence, including a taped confession and testimony that McArthur led police to Cusano's remains, to convict him of manslaughter.

According to the tape, Cusano - who usually served wealthy customers - told McArthur she wasn't comfortable staying with him at a Hartford boarding house.

McArthur said the two argued because she wanted to leave and she refused to take his money. He said there was a struggle, and at one point he held Cusano in a headlock. When he let go, he said, she collapsed and was no longer breathing.

A witness testified McArthur traded Cusano's car for crack cocaine, and took from her purse $30, a bank card, and an American Express card belonging to Vincent, the one-time Kiss guitarist whose real name is Vincent Cusano. He and AnnMarie Cusano were briefly married in the 1980s.

BRUCE KULICK ON LORDI AND ON VH-1 ROCK HONORS
(from www.kulick.net)
A few weeks after that a band from Finland called LORDI won a huge award in Europe. They are big KISS fans and especially into the era of the 80's that I performed with KISS. I was contacted late last year to be included as a guest soloist on one of their songs. I heard they were popular, but now they are exploding! I played classic Revenge style licks on the track "It Snows In Hell", which I think is the next single from their new CD. So I will be getting some nice gold and platinum discs from the group. With technology these days, you don't have even meet the artist, they can just send you via the Internet the track to perform on, go to a studio, and email back! That is so unreal, but you would never know the difference. I hope to meet them in person soon and properly congratulate them. They certainly know how to rock in Finland!

Speaking of awards, I was proud to see KISS so prominently featured on the VH-1 Rock Honors program, where they performed as the closing act.  For the record, I was not asked to participate and, truth be told, in the world of make-up only KISS I am not sure how I could quite fit in. It would have been great to jam with Ace, but I watched the show from my home. My comments... Happy for Ace to be out there with his Revenge style goatee jamming out on his Blue Sparkle Les Paul, Eric and Tommy for kicking some serious rock butt, Gene for spitting and gyrating like a 25 year old horny beast, and Paul for singing up a storm. KISS's pyro and bombs were over-the-top amazing and I sat watching in awe saying to myself, "I used to play with this band! Wow!"

LORDI TO PLAY WITH KISS?
Song Contest winners Lordi played in Finland in front of 90.000 fans and got into the Guinness book of records for the largest crowd singing karaoke. Their new single entered the Finnish charts obviously at #1 and at #5 in Germany, their album also climbed into the Top 10 in Germany.

The APN reports:

Big Apple' are to be the scene of the assignation between the winners of the international ESC, the Finnish monster-rockers LORDI, and their great idols, the amerikan supergroup KISS.

It is LORDI´s record company, who now will try to spread the european LORDI-fever to the american rock-audience.

"We are planning a joint concert for LORDI and KISS in New York", says Kimmo Valtanen from Sony´s finnish department.

According to the finnish paper, Iltasanomat, the talk is about a so-called showcase, with entrence only for press- and "branch-people"(ed people in the line of buisness), while reel fans must stay outside the door.

A DREAM COMING TRUE

To the members of LORDI, it is a dream coming true. All the members of the masked orchestra, are solid and faithfull KISS-fans. Yes, actually the five members got to know each other in relation with a trip to a KISS-concert in Stockholm.

With thoughts on LORDI´s great passion for heavy makeup and theatrical thunder, one must not look far to find the inspiration from KISS, but actually the fascination goes both ways.

The members of the classical american rock-band have heard of LORDI, and the singer and bassist in KISS, Gene Simmons, nearly brought the Finns to his own record-company.

"Gene Simmons wanted us at his record company, but it became nothing. It also was Gene, who made our present record-company aware of us", tells the members of LORDI to Iltasanomat.
