DID YOU KNOW...

... that there was a 11 LP Box Set released in Japan named "The Originals 1974 - 1979"? It included all the Kiss albums until 1979, each one in a different coloured vinyl, together with some extras. The first pressing had a black box. But there was also a very limited second printing in a red box. The red box is a lot harder to find than the already rare black box. At the moment the second printing red box set is on eBay and 4 days before the end of the auction the highest bid is already at 860 US Dollars!

PRESS KITS

When a band has released a new album, the record company promoted the album by sending out press-kits to people at the press and in the music industry. The press kit usually included promotional photos (sometimes slides), promotional infos about the album and the band and copies of articles from important magazines. It all came usually in a nice colour folder with the image of the promoted album on it.
A very nice press-kit for the "Rock and Roll over" album is on eBay at the moment.

MITCH WEISMANN

(from rockpages.gr)
We continue our year-long KISS special feature with the 21st interview of a KISS-related figure. This week, Mitch Weismann, composer and KISS’ collaborator throughout the years remembers his KISS years! Here’s an excerpt:

Rockpages.gr:

After a 6-year “interval” you once again collaborated with Gene in 1984 for two records: The Wendy O’ Williams one and KISS’ “Animalize”. Did Gene approach you in order to work together again?

Mitch Weismann:

It didn’t really happen that way specifically. We had a mutual friend, Peppy Castro, who was friends with Bob Kulick, Bruce’s brother. They both had appeared on “Unmasked” in some capacity that I’ve now forgotten. Well, Peppy used to throw these rooftop parties at his apartment on the 4th of July. Paul and I reintroduced ourselves, talked all day and at the end, we exchanged phone numbers and he said “Call me sometime.” The next day I woke up and said to my wife, “I can’t call him!” So, at the next year’s party, Paul comes up to me and says, “Hey, nice to see you again. Why didn’t you call me?” And I said “I couldn’t call you. You’re Paul Stanley!” We both laughed about it, had a great time and started getting together socially. Gene was reintroduced into the mix and I was now friends with both of them. Almost every day for a couple of years.

WILL HALIFAX GET KISSED?

(from Times & Transcript)
Rumours that legendary rock group KISS will perform an outdoor show in Halifax got much louder yesterday as a Halifax promoter began circulating teaser advertisements for the show.

Advertisements scheduled to appear in today's Times & Transcript were telling readers to check a website for more information, but that website was not up and running yesterday afternoon.

The ads simply say "get ready" and include the well-known makeup faces of Kiss members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. Harold MacKay, a Halifax promoter associated with Power Promotional Concepts in Dartmouth, was not available for comment yesterday.

The ads seem to lend more credence to the rumour that KISS will appear in Halifax.

KISS co-founder and bassist Gene Simmons was quoted recently by news media saying a short summer tour was planned for the rock icons next summer, including a date in Halifax.

"I know Halifax is one," Simmons said.

So far, officials in Halifax have been quiet about the possibility. A check of the official KISS website shows no concert dates for 2009.

Officials with the City of Moncton and Donald K. Donald have said an announcement for a summer concert at the Magnetic Hill site would be coming soon. Although there have been no announcements, the most widely-believed rumour is that this year's headliners could be AC/DC or U2. Both groups have new albums and are expected to do full-blown world tours this year. One might say KISS owes the East Coast some dates.

The band played here in 1976 on April 18 (Moncton) and April 19 (Halifax), and in 1977 on July 8 (Halifax) and July 9 (Moncton).

The band was due to return for shows Oct. 21-23 in 1990 in Sydney, Halifax and Moncton, but cancelled when guitarist Paul Stanley injured himself on tour.
