KISSOLOGY VOL. 3 REVIEW
Due to the strong competition before X-mas, Kissology Vol. 3 enetered the Billboard DVD charts in its first week only at # 3 (Garth Brooks was # 1), but it sold better than expected. Everybody thought, sales would drop off drastically with Vol. 3, but this was not the case. Probably because in Vol. 3 you get the most never before seen footage. You are also getting 5 DVDs for a special price, much cheaper than other bands DVD-sets.

Once again, the back of the slipcase was printed incorrectly and and inlay sheet was put on top of it. Hilarious. No comment...
The slipcase is white, but the box itself appears to be in black once it is taken out.

The DVDs are in NTSC, code 1. Once again they did not learn from their mistakes. It would have made more sense to release them in code 0. However, almost all DVD machines can be set code free. If yours does not play the DVDs, check out the Forum.

Just like on Kissology Vol. 2 you can also hear commentaries on Kissology Vol. 3 from various members of the band (click in the menue on "Set up" and then on "Kiss commentary"). Gene, Paul, Bruce, and Tommy Thayer can be heard, but not Eric Singer. There are no commentaries on the Bonus Discs.

On side two in the booklet you can read a handwritten statement from Paul Stanley, where he blames Ace and Peter, that the band is not together anymore in original line-up  - due to problems with alcohol, drugs etc.
Also in the commentaries, Gene and Paul don't get tired of mentioning over and over again, that it was hell being together with Ace and Peter. You may ask yourself, why they got tohgether with them in the first place.

DISC 1

Detroit, 27.11.1992
You get to see about 80 minutes from the Kiss-concert in Auburn Hills (Detroit) at the beginning. Just like all other concerts, it is not complete. This video is better than the version seen on "Kiss Konfidential". It is completely in colour.
Kissology3Detroit1992.jpg (17187 Byte)

MTV Unplugged: Behind the scenes
A short backstage-report from the recording sessions from MTV Unplugged.
Kissology3MTVUnpluggedBehindTheScenes.jpg (18525 Byte)

MTV Unplugged
There are only 16 songs on the "MTV Unplugged" video-tape released in 1996. Here we get to see all 21 songs the band recorded back then (excluding the retakes). The completely uncut recordings including the retakes, which are circulationg on the bootleg market, are not in such great quality.
Kissology3MTVUnplugged.jpg (15247 Byte)

easter egg:

If you click on the word "Kissology" in the menue, you will see some private video-footage from the studio from the recording sessions for "Carnival of souls" in 1995.

Kissology3EasterEggCOS.jpg (18120 Byte)

DISC 2

Detroit, Tiger Stadium, 28.6.1996
The first full Reunion concert. Unfortunately you only get to see close ups, but not the audience at all. In between the songs you see just a black screen. The concert is incomplete, but at least we get to see 17 songs from the first Reunion concert of never before seen footage. A legendary concert!
Kissology3TigerStadium1996.jpg (18218 Byte)

MTV Video Music Awards, 4.9.1996
This is not just the one song, which aired, but all 5 songs the band played when they taped the performance. Brilliant performance in brillaint quality, obviously much better than the bootleg version around!
Kissology3VMA1996.jpg (20923 Byte)

Dodger Stadium, LA, 31.10.1998 (Part 1)
The opening night of the "Psycho Circus" tour. Great footage. Unfortunately it was split up to two DVDs.
Kissology3DodgerStadium1998.jpg (19721 Byte)

easter egg:
If you click on the word "Kissology" in the menue, you will see about 2 minutes of the soundcheck for the "MTV Video Music Awards" 1996... without make-up! They play "Love Gun"... really nice footage!

Kissology3VMARehearsals.jpg (13295 Byte)

DISC 3

Dodger Stadium, LA, 31.10.1998 (Part 2)
Part 2 of the concert.
Kissology3DodgerStadium2.jpg (22835 Byte)

Detroit Rock City movie premiere, 9.8.1999
All 4 songs, which Kiss played at the movie premiere. Very good, but nothing new. This was shown on TV already.
Kissology3DRC.jpg (24034 Byte)

The Last Kiss, New Jersey, 27.6.2000
A concert from the Farewell Tour. Was already shown on TV. 14 songs from that concert can be seen here. An uncut version of this concert is circulating on the bootleg market, but not in this great quality.
Kissology3TheLastKiss.jpg (21337 Byte)

aster egg:
If you click on the word "Kissology" in the menue, you will see "2.000 man" from the Millennium concert in Vancouver. Very nice!

Kissology3Vancouver.jpg (19412 Byte)

DISC 4

Coventry, 22.12.1973
This is the oldest Kiss concert, which has been video-taped. It was filmed with one camera from far back in B/W with lots of heads in the way. It is a bit unsharp. In the booklet is written, that the audio and video has been cleaned up for Kissology. You may ask yourself, why they haven't done that for all the other footage in the series as well. There are no easter eggs on Disc 4.
Kissology3Coventry1973.jpg (8959 Byte)

DISC 5

Disc 5 is the Bonus Disc. Again, there are 3 different ones, depending where you bought it from. This time, all 3 Bonus Discs are really good and interesting. The standard edition, which you also get on Amazon, includes 10 songs from the very first Reunion-Tour (even before the Tiger Stadium concert) from 15.6.1006. They haven't played the full set on that day. You can tell, that they were in the middle of the rehearsals for the Reunion Tour at that time. A lot of things went wrong: bombs were going off at the wrong time, Ace's guitar didn't work, no smoke during Ace's Solo, Gene lost half his costume during the blod spitting, during "Detroit Rock city" a fan runs on stage and shows his naked bottom to the audience, and at the end the top of the stage caught fire.
Kissology3IrvineAce.jpg (12346 Byte)

At "Best Buy" you get Sao Paulo 1994 as the Bonus Disc. The concert is only missing one song (Take it off) and the quality is great.
Kissology3SaoPaulo1994.jpg (16921 Byte)

At "Walmart" you get a concert from Madison Square Garden 1996 as the Bonus Disc. A few songs are missing, but it is 105 minutes in great quality. Unfortunately it shows only close-ups and not much from the audience.
Kissology3MSG1996.jpg (12433 Byte)

So Vol. 3 includes by far the most new material from the Kissology series, and everything in great quality. It is a must have!

ACE TO PERFORM NEW MUSIC LIVE?

(from The Buffalo News)
Ace Frehley, legendary original lead guitarist with New York City glam rockers Kiss, will make a rare Western New York appearance as a solo artist when he brings his band to the Seneca Niagara Casino and Hotel on Feb 29. The show was announced this afternoon in a release from the casino.

Frehley, whose "Space Ace" persona during his Kiss tenure made him the hero to a few generations of guitarists-in-waiting, will perform inside the Seneca Niagara's intimate Bear's Den. During the performance, the guitarist and his band will debut tunes from a forthcoming album, Frehley's first outside of the confines of Kiss in nearly 20 years.

Tickets for the event -- which, considering the size of both the venue and the Frehley mythos, are sure to vanish quickly -- will go on sale at noon Monday. They're priced $30 and will be available at the Eight Clans Gift Shop in the casino, all Ticketmaster locations, through www.Ticketmaster.com or by calling 852-5000.

PAUL COMMENTS ON TOUR RUMOURS 2008

Paul has been quoted on Kissonline. "We're heading to Australia and New Zealand in March. There are rumors of a European tour and perhaps a U.S. tour. We are one of those fortunate exceptions because our fan base is always broadening. We have had the advantage of being around for 35 years. We are always gaining new fans and some old fans come along with their kids. It is the young Kiss army."
