He mentions, that in the fine and healthy condition he is these days he wouldn't have a problem working with Gene and Paul again. ACE FREHLEY: NEW ALBUM, BOOK & EUROPEAN FESTIVALS
Ace was interviewed for iheardguitarblog.com, where he mainly talked about his new guitar. But he also talked about his future plans. here's a quote from the interview:

“I’ve started working on a new album, I’m writing a new book… there are a lot of good things on the horizon. At this point I think it’s just going to be an extension of No Regrets. There’s so much I left out because of the deadline, but after talking with so many different people I’ve got so many stories that have eluded me over the years. And there just wasn’t enough room to put them into No Regrets, and I was past the deadline as it was. But I think I’m going to come out with something in the effect of like a No Regrets II. But I also have the idea to put out a guitar book with all my guitar effects, tricks, recording techniques… I’ve learned a lot of tricks from working with a lot of great producers over the years, and I think I should write a book about it!”

Our time up, I selfishly conclude our interview by asking if there’s any chance of a return here to Australia any time soon. “Yeah! It’s something we’ve been talking about. There are some festivals I think I’m going to be doing this summer in Europe, so maybe we can work in Australia towards the end of this year or early next year. I don’t know particularly how it would work. We still haven’t been to Japan with this current line-up that I have now, so usually Japan and Australia go hand in hand.”

GENE SIMMONS' BIZARRE JOGGING LOOK
(from dailymail.co.uk/Amelia Proud)
He's held his bass guitar wielding hands up to plastic surgery, and even posed before and after his face lift. And Gene Simmons, 62, certainly looked strangely taut as he jogged in Studio City yesterday with his family. The rocker's trademark raven mane flapped as he propelled himself along the sidewalk but his face stayed still.

KISS TO PLAY SONISPHERE UK FESTIVAL AS EUROPEAN EXCLUSIVE ON JULY 6
Sonisphere2012-07-06.jpg (85013 Byte)
(from sonisphere.co.uk)

Shooting rockets. Blood spitting. Face Paint. Shiny Boots and utterly jaw dropping triumphant live shows:  SONISPHERE is proud to announce KISS as Friday’s headliner. With a reputation for being perhaps the most flamboyant and entertaining band on the planet, the American Kings will bring their stage extravaganza to SONISPHERE as their only European performance of 2012. While many bands have been chasing the eye liner shock horror dollar and have come and gone without changing the face of music as we know it, KISS have gone from strength to strength garnering praise, success and too many accolades to mention throughout the years, selling over 100 million albums worldwide and counting as the band is poised to unleash new album ‘Monster’ in June 2012.   Says the band:

“You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest band in the world, KISS”.

SONISPHERE festival is KISS’ invitation to have the best time of your life with long lost friends such as the anthemic  ‘Rock N Roll All Night’, the jubilant singalong ‘I Was Made For Lovin’ You’ and the rallying cry of ‘God Gave Rock N Roll to You’. We would ask you to lock up your daughters, girlfriends and wives, but with Gene Simmons in town, it’s pretty clear there’s no stopping them. And if you can’t fight them, join them at their only European show of 2012.

More infos here.

AUCTIONS GONE CRAZY...

Auctions for Kiss belt buckles on eBay are going crazy for some reason once in a while. A Peter Criss belt buckle has just sold for $ 689,-:

140[1].jpg (8580 Byte)

A Gene Simmons belt buckle sold for $ 617,-!
140[2].jpg (6951 Byte)

And theses are not even the highest prices ever paid for Kiss belt buckles.
Wow! Not bad - you might think...

But how expensive sells Kiss stuff in comparison to others?
You better fasten your seat belt, because in comparison to other collectibles, Kiss merchandise is a real bargain.
What about this one:
A "God save then Queen" 7" single from the Sex Pistols, well a promotional one, from 1977 - without picture sleeve. For how much would it go for? $ 1.000? Incredible $ 2.000,-? Or even unbelievable $ 5.000,-?
Well even that would be considered a bargain - this piece of vinyl sold for believe it or not:  $ 17.774,- / € 13.336,- !!!???
SexPistols.jpg (6846 Byte)

Well, and that's not even the most expensive single ever sold on eBay. A Beatles single once sold for over $ 26.000,-.

But Kiss are really expensive with their € 1.000,- meet & greets, aren't they?
Well, for that much you probably wouldn't even get a handshake from Warren Buffet.
Last year a dinner with Warren Buffet was auctioned on eBay.
And for how much did it go for? It would make Gene jealous.
It's an amount you have to look at twice close enough to even being able to read and understand: it sold for... $ 2,345.678,- !!!???
Haha now that was made up, wasn't it? You think so? The auction is still listed on eBay under the completed auctions...
WarrenBuffet.jpg (5914 Byte)

So what is currently the most expensive Kiss auction on eBay?
A Japanese tour jackeet from 1977... for $ 5.000,-.

PRE-ORDER KISS "NOTHIN' TO LOSE" BOOK NOW

(from Kissonline)
"Nothin' to Lose: the Making of KISS (1972-1975)" will be released on August 14, 2012.

Written by Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley and Ken Sharp, "Nothin' to Lose: the Making of KISS (1972-1975)" is a 448-page hardback book that chronicles for the first time the crucial formative years of the legendary rock band KISS, culminating with the groundbreaking success of their classic 1975 album "Alive!" and the smash single "Rock and Roll All Nite", a song that nearly four decades later remains one of the band's most enduring anthems.

Drawing on more than 200 interviews, the book offers a captivating and intimate fly-on-the-wall account of their launch, charting the struggles and ultimate victories that led them to the threshold of super-stardom. Constructed as an oral history, the book includes original interviews with Paul, Gene, Ace, and Peter, as well as producers, engineers, management, Casablanca Records staff, roadies, costume and stage designers, music writers, and musical contemporaries from the time, including original managers Bill Aucoin and Joyce Bogart, Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart, rock photographers Fin Costello, Norman Seeff, Bob Gruen and Joel Brodsky, promoter Ron Delsener, Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, Dick Clark, Alice Cooper, Iggy & the Stooges, Todd Rundgren and Marshall Crenshaw, as well as members of Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Rush, Styx, Nazareth, Slade, Blue Oyster Cult, Uriah Heep, Argent, Journey, REO Speedwagon, Mott the Hoople, the New York Dolls, James Gang, Wishbone Ash, Status Quo, Savoy Brown, Manfred Mann's Earth band, Black Oak Arkansas, Todd Rundgren, the Guess Who, Jo Jo Gunne, Montrose, the Ramones, Suzi Quatro, The Rockets among others.

The end result is an indelible and irresistible portrait of a band on the rise and the music scene they changed forever. Profusely illustrated with scores of rare photographs and vintage ephemera.

"NO REGRETS" REVIEW

(from 102themountain.com/Alan K. Stout)
When former KISS guitarist Ace Frehely first put the word out about two years ago that he was penning an autobiography, he was candid enough to admit that his recollections of much of the '70s and the '80s were a bit of a blur. Living a fast life of wine, women and song - and drugs - had made it that way. But with some fine prodding by co-authors Joe Layden and John Ostrosky, Frehley's memory came alive. And his recently released book, "No Regrets," is a total page-turner.

DID YOU KNOW...
... that a prototype speaking version of the Kiss pinball machine was made ahead of its time but failed to be marketed? This is reported on silverballmuseum.com and on ipdb.org where it says:
A 'Kiss' prototype was built which used speech. Allan Reizman, Engineering Lab Supervisor at Bally, shares his remembrances of this: The talking Kiss prototype did make it out of the lab at least once and was displayed at the 1979 AMOA show in Chicago where it was viewed by all. I believe it said things like, "Shoot the K" and "Kiss!" when you completed a Kiss row. Somebody recently reminded me it groaned, "Too much Rock and Roll!" when you tilted it.
The game was only done as a one-time concept.

... that a long time before Kiss and Chelsea Peter Criss has released a single with his band "The Barracudas" in 1966? The single was recently listed on eBay and sold for $ 174,98. Click here to see the auction, where you can also listen to audio samples of both sides of the record.

INTERVIEW WITH DENNIS WOLOCH
(from kissfanzine.com)
The design wizard
Ever since I since I discovered Kiss in the 70's, the design and packaging of the albums and merchandise have always fascinated me. And the ‘magic world’ of illustrations and typography It showed me had a lot to do with my own choices later in my working life. So It’s a real pleasure to be able to publish this interview I have done with the Kiss design ‘mastermind’ in the 70's and 80's, Dennis Woloch. It’s a dream I have had since I read the great interview he did with the ‘Kiss This’ fanzine in the beginning of the 90's. And thank you very much Dennis for being to willing to answer these questions. You have made my day.
Q. Tell us a little about your background and what kind of work you did for you did for Howard Marks before you started working with Kiss.
I was the Art Director at Howard Marks Advertising in New York for 22 years. Eventually I became the VP/ Creative Director.

INTERVIEW WITH ACE

(from Noisecreep)
It all goes back to 1977, when KISS hit the stage at Nippon Budokan in Japan.

That night, guitarist Ace Frehley played a Cherry Sunburst, three-pickup Les Paul Custom, creating a sound that would inspire an army of musicians to come. "This was the ultimate marriage of pop and heavy rock, driven to meteoric heights by the record industry marketing machine, and ultimately attaining that otherworldly presence that great stadium rock should achieve: unbridled fantasy and party-hard reality rolled into one glorious explosion," said Gibson Guitars about Frehley and KISS at the time.

In celebration of Ace, his axe and that magical era in Kisstory, Gibson Custom recently released the Ace Frehley 'Budokan' Les Paul Custom, produced in a strictly Limited Edition of 50 hand-aged guitars signed by the artist, with a further 100 hand-aged guitars, and 150 guitars treated in Gibson Custom's VOS process.

Ace spoke to Noisecreep about his new guitar, KISS, and what he has in store in 2012.

TOBY WRIGHT
(from rockpages.gr/Sakis Nikas)
“Carnival of Souls” was an album that divided the KISS fans and caused major controversy in all the forums and the fanzine columns around that time. To tell you the truth, personally I needed a few months to adjust to the new musical direction of KISS. The person behind the console was Toby Wright, a producer responsible also for albums by such artists as Alice in Chains, Korn, Sevendust and many others. I am sure that all the die-hard KISS fans had noticed his name...10 years before “Carnival of Souls”. We talked exclusively with Toby via Skype...

BOOK REVIEW: ACE FREHLEY: NO REGRETS

(from The West Australian)
Ace Frehley: No Regrets
Ace Frehley
Simon & Schuster, $32.99

Whatever you think of Kiss, you can't deny they had an impact. Inspired by The Beatles - and sounding nothing like them - Kiss used merchandise to spread their image and make lots of money. Masks, comics, lunchboxes, toothbrushes, tattoos and so on... it became possible to have Paul, Gene, Ace and Peter watching over all of your daily activities in the 1970s. With the inevitable Kiss Kasket in 2001, you could even go to the grave with your favourite made-up band.

GENE CONFIRMS ANGRY BIRDS GAME, IN TALKS WITH PLAYSTATION
(from industrygames.com)
Gene Simmons knows business as well as he knows rock n roll. In addition to selling over 100 million records and DVDs, he’s turned KISS into a licensing behemoth that includes over 3,000 items ranging from condoms to coffins. Now the star of the hit reality TV series, “Gene Simmons Family Jewels”, has entered the technology space with Ortsbo (Ortsbo.com). The rock legend has joined the digital language translation company, in part, because he speaks five languages (English, Hebrew, Hungarian, German, and some Japanese) and is learning Mandarin.

Simmons, who was at the Sundance Film Festival with comic book legend Stan Lee last week, talks about how Ortsbo, and technology, is changing music, and the world, and offers his thoughts on music video games in this exclusive IndustryGamers interview. Note near the end his comments on securing an Angry Birds game deal and that he's in talks with Sony PlayStation as well.
