CASABLANCA SINGLES BOX SET REVIEW
(from Bryan Coates/Amazon.com)
I've dreamt that one day KISS would do just this: compile all the Casablanca singles into one set.
The edits/different mixes are a must-have for the KISS fanatic. The only thing missing that I would have liked are the Japanese Talk To Me/Easy As It Seems single,I/Only You single,The Oath/Escape From The Island single & I'm A Legend Tonight/Love Gun(remix)single. I'm aware that they are only compiling the North American release singles & not ones exclusive to other countries. It just would've been even greater with the addition of these as well!
Overall, excellent packaging with attention to detail. An amazing addition to a KISS fanatic's collection...

STEVE CORONEL (EX-WICKED LESTER GUITARIST AND KISS SONGWRITER TALKS GROWING UP WITH THE DEMON AND PRE-KISSTORY
(from Legendary Rock Interviews)
Steve Coronel is best known as the original guitar player in Wicked Lester, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley’s pre-KISS recording act. That’s the tip of the proverbial iceberg though and while people would possibly still be lining up to interview Steve were that the only criteria he has lots of other interesting conversation points. He knew the KISS guys way before the fame and makeup and in fact, recommended a young Stanley Eisen come over to his apartment to audition for a band vacancy his best bud from junior high ( Gene Simmons) had. He’s a pretty damn good guitar player to this day (as I heard during the course of the interview) and songwriter having written the songs “She” and “Goin Blind” which are now rightfully considered KISS Klassics among a lot of material for his post KISS band, LOVER. Steve is an interesting guy with an interesting and down to earth viewpoint on one of the most idolized and sensationalized bands in rock and roll history. I make no bones about my love for KISS and constant quest for more KISS information so with that, I dialed up Steve who was fun, engaging and totally up for my questions. Read on…

Legendary Rock Interviews: Hey Steve how’s it going?

Steve Coronel: Real good John, I was just rehearsing guitar…(plays a bit of blues scale with a nice tone). I’m still jamming.

PETER CRISS TELLS STORY OF SURVIVAL IN MEMOIR "MAKEUP TO BREAKUP"

(from nj.com)
A gun in the mouth — it's a terrible way to end a life, but a great way to begin a book.

Founding Kiss drummer Peter Criss closed his lips around a .357 Magnum when things looked most bleak: in the immediate aftermath of a 1994 earthquake. Criss' life was already a disaster — he was a twice-divorced drug casualty who exhausted the fortune he made with Kiss, a band he was no longer in — when his world began to shake, rattle and roll.

"I was sitting in a Hollywood dump in shambles," recalls Criss during a recent call.

ROCK MEMOIR BOOK CLUB: PETER CRISS' AMAZING, SELF PITYING "MAKEUP TO BREAKUP"
(from grantland.com)

In this installment of Rock Memoir Book Club, we discuss Makeup to Breakup: My Life In and Out of Kiss, by ex-Kiss drummer Peter Criss with Larry “Ratso” Sloman.

Discussion question no. 1: How does this book compare with Peter Criss’s drumming on the first six Kiss albums and that one song on Dynasty?
This is a loaded question, since Eric Carr is my favorite Kiss drummer of all time. (This is based mainly on Creatures of the Night and its ridiculously huge, fake John Bonham drum sound.) But if the question is really “Did you enjoy this book?” then the answer is “Absolutely.”

CASABLANCA SINGLES 1974 - 1982 BOX SET REVIEW
(from allmusic.com)

Kiss were half-heavy metal band, half-circus act in their heyday, a time known as their "golden age" amongst fans, "the make-up era" to the rest the world, or 1974-1982 if you're being generous by a couple years on either end. Those happen to be the years the group were signed to Neil Bogart's label Casablanca Records, a successful '70s hypemachine that found success at the far ends of the pop spectrum with comic book heavy metal (Kiss) and disco (the Village People, Donna Summer, Lipps Inc., Irene Cara, and a truckload of producer-based acts). The Casablanca Singles: 1974-1982 collects all 29 singles Kiss released on Bogart's label, making them available on vinyl 7" or CD singles with picture sleeves from around the world faithfully reproduced (which in the case of 1974's "Nothin' to Lose" b/w "Love Theme from Kiss" means all-white promo packaging).

PETER CRISS DISCUSSES NEW MEMOIR, CONFLICTS WITH EX-BAND MATES
(from ABC News Radio)

Founding KISS drummer Peter Criss' recently published memoir, Makeup to Breakup, gives an uncensored and no-holds-barred look at his life and exploits before, during and after his years with the famed costumed rock band. In the book, co-written with Larry "Ratso" Sloman, Criss opens up about the in-fighting and bad blood between him and his former band mates, particularly Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. He also details his struggle with cocaine abuse and many other aspects of his often turbulent life.

The drummer, who sang and co-wrote KISS' biggest chart hit, "Beth," tells ABC News Radio that he thinks his story is one that will captivate KISS fans, as well as readers in general.

THREE SIDES OF THE COIN

Three Sides of the Coin is a KISS podcast featuring Michael Brandvold, Mitch Lafon and Tommy Sommers.

In this episode we discuss KISS books... Gene Simmons KISS and Make Up, Ace Frehley No Regrets, Peter Criss Makeup to Breakup My Life In and Out of KISS, Chris Lendt KISS and Sell, Lydia Criss Sealed with a KISS. We discuss what we would like to see in Paul Stanley's upcoming autobiography and if Bruce Kulick would ever write a book, what we would like to read in his book.

Michael Brandvold launched the 5th website on the internet devoted to KISS, KISS Otaku. He went on the build, launch and maintain Kissonline.com KISS' official website. Mitch Lafon first interviewed Gene Simmons in 1979 and has since interviewed nearly all members of KISS, many more than once. He produced and released a Ace Frehley tribute CD. Tommy Sommers has been a fan since 1976 and has seen them in concert dozens of times. He spent many years on the record show circuit selling memorabilia and meeting many KISS fans.

This is only our opinion... it is neither right or wrong.

CASABLANCA SINGLES BOX SET REVIEW
Here's a detailed review from the actual product: The new "Casablanca Singles 1974 - 1982" Box Set.
It is available on vinyl and on CD and contains 29 singles (26 of them with a picture sleeve). The Vinyl Box is actually the one with the higher collectible value, but it is nice to have a CD version as well, although those singles have never been released on the CD format back then.
Here is a list of all the singles:

1. Nothin' To Lose / Love Theme From KISS
2. Kissin' Time / Nothin' To Lose
3. Strutter / 100,000 Years
4. Let Me Go, Rock 'N' Roll / Hotter Than Hell (Germany sleeve)
5. Rock And Roll All Nite / Getaway (Holland sleeve)
6. C'mon And Love Me / Getaway (Japan sleeve)
7. Rock And Roll All Nite (live) / Rock And Roll All Nite (Germany sleeve)
8. Shout It Out Loud / Sweet Pain (Japan sleeve)
9. Flaming Youth / God Of Thunder (U.S. sleeve)
10. Detroit Rock City / Beth (Japan sleeve)
11. Beth / Detroit Rock City (Germany sleeve)
12. Hard Luck Woman / Mr. Speed (Germany sleeve)
13. Calling Dr. Love / Take Me (Germany sleeve)
14. Christeen Sixteen / Shock Me (France sleeve)
15. Love Gun / Hooligan (Sweden sleeve)
16. Shout It Out Loud (live) / Nothin' To Lose (live) (Germany sleeve)
17. Rocket Ride / Tomorrow And Tonight (live) (Germany sleeve)
18. Strutter '78 / Shock Me (Germany sleeve)
19. Hold Me, Touch Me / Goodbye - Paul Stanley (U.K. sleeve / Purple vinyl) + mask
20. New York Groove / Snow Blind - Ace Frehley (U.K. sleeve / Blue vinyl) + mask
21. Radioactive / See You In Your Dreams - Gene Simmons (U.K. sleeve / Red vinyl) + mask
22. Don't You Let Me Down / Hooked On Rock 'N' Roll - Peter Criss (Germany sleeve)
23. You Matter To Me / Hooked On Rock 'N' Roll - Peter Criss (U.K. sleeve / Green vinyl) + mask
24. I Was Made For Lovin' You / Hard Times (Germany sleeve)
25. Sure Know Something / Dirty Livin' (Germany sleeve)
26. Shandi / She's So European (Holland sleeve)
27. Tomorrow / Naked City (Japan sleeve)
28. A World Without Heroes / Dark Light (Spain sleeve)
29. I Love It Loud / Danger (U.S. sleeve)

First of all: those Box Sets look awesome. They are very well done. This isn't just a cheap re-release like most other "Greatest Hits" albums these days. This is a high quality product.
They come in a very strong box with a 3-D effect cover. They come sealed and they are pretty heavy. The front has a cut out KISS Logo with flames in the background. Below the logo there is an engraved metal plate saying "The Casablanca Singles 1974 - 1982 Limited Edition". Unfortunately they are not numbered, however only 2.500 copies worldwide have been made of each format.

The Box can be opened on the side. The covers are not exactly identical to the original artwork. A new copyright info has been added on each vinyl single cover, and the paper is very thick, almost like a cardboard sleeve. The label itself is done in its original style, but not absolutely identical. It has a new 2012 dated copyright info on it and the time stated might differ slightly to the time stated on the original label. However, it is the same version. The singles come on heavy vinyl, the CDs are black on the back and the front looks like a label.

The 4 solo singles do come on coloured vinyl and with a mask. Unfortunately the masks are not cut out like the original ones, but still nice. The masks inside the CDs seem to be the same maks as the ones that come with the vinyl, just folded differently.

A nice booklet comes also with the Box with details on each single and some nice photos as well.

Here are some pictures of the Vinyl Box Set:

It is safe to say the Box Set will increase in value once they sell out, especially the Vinyl Box. The Japanese CD re-releases, which also came out in a box a few years ago are selling for hundrets of Dollars these days.

The suggested retail price for the CD Box is about $ 180,- in the US and about € 180,- in Europe, the vinyl retail price is about $ 270,- in the US and about € 250,- in Europe.

For some reason the Vinyl Box Set is still available for just 154,99 Euros here at Amazon Italy, much cheaper than anywhere else. This is definately an investment, you can't go wrong getting one for that price! If you order from outside the EU, VAT will not apply and you will get it even cheaper than that! The CD version is available for about the same price through Amazon USA or Amazon Germany. The Box Set has just been released in the US and will be available in Europe shortly.

CASABLANCA SINGLES BOX SET PROMO VIDEO
Here you can watch a promotional video for the "Casablanca Singles" Box Set. The box contains a booklet tracking the genesis of each single.
The Vinyl Box set is still available for just 154,99 Euros here at Amazon Italy.
Postage is very little. If you order from outside the Europen Union (for example Switzerland, USA...), then V.A.T. will not apply and you will only be charged the net price of  about 129 Euros (ca. US $ 167,-)! However, custom taxes (import duties) may apply when ordering from outside the EU.
The Vinyl Box Set usually does cost about 250 Euros elsewhere. Each Box Set is limited to 2.500 copies.

The Box contains 29 vinyl singles, 26 of them come with a picture sleeve, plus booklet. The Solo-Singles come in coloured vinyl and with a mask.

You do not have to register extra for Amazon Italy, if you are already registered at Amazon USA or elsewhere at Amazon. You can use the same user data for Amazon Italy. Ordering at Amazon Italy is self explanatory even without Italian language skills as it works exactly the same as for Amazon USA or elsewhere. You may also translate the text.

The price is subject to change any time!

12/6: Q&A WITH PETER CRISS, SIGNING MEMOIR IN TEMPE
(from azcentral.com)
Kiss drummer Peter Criss can now add New York Times Best Seller to a list of accomplishments that may have peaked with the writing and singing of “Beth,” the highest-charting Kiss song ever, in 1976.

And that’s a mighty happy ending for a guy who sets the tone for “Makeup to Breakup: My Life In and Out of Kiss” with “Have you ever tasted the barrel of a .357 Magnum that’s halfway down your throat?” — recounting the time he almost killed himself in 1994.

We caught up with Criss to talk about the memoirs he’ll be signing on Thursday, Dec. 6, at Changing Hands Bookstore in Tempe.
Question: What was it like reliving all these memories?
Answer: Thank God I made a lot of tapes through the years of things that happened because it’s a lot to remember (laughs).
