MORE NEW "ELDER" FOOTAGE SURFACES

Two additional Music From The Elder period KISS clips have surfaced on YouTube as well as some Creatures Of The Night Tour footage from KISS’s 1983 Keil Auditorium concert in St. Louis, Missouri.

As reported last week: This is the first time in nearly 13 years that any new ‘Elder’ era master tapes have been discovered. The clips, which are dated January 5, 1982, feature band members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley as they prepare to tape a segment for a short-lived CBS-TV series.

These clips are being released to promote a continuing series of KISS auctions from eBay seller EliteWorks. 56 items are being auctioned this week which include one of the 1970s official KISS “lost toys”, a blood stained Gene Simmons pick from the reunion tour, a band signed Revenge promo poster, a 1977 Madison Square Garden after-party invite as well as dozens of 1970s and 80s KISS posters including the official Alive! and Alive II stage posters.

You can see the auctions here: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&campid=5336297935&toolid=10001&customid=&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%2F_W0QQsassZeliteworks

PAT SOMMERS: "PAUL WAS LARGER THAN LIFE!"

(from rockpages.gr)
We continue our KISS special feature with the 26th interview of a KISS-related figure. This week, Pat Sommers, a collaborator of Ace Frehley during the recordings of Trouble Walkin’ and a…regular “figure” at the Aucoin offices in the 70s, tells us what he remembers from that Rocket Ride! Here’s an excerpt:

Rockpages.gr:
Describe to us the whole atmosphere in Aucoin offices in the 70s…

Pat Sommers:
It was very much like a family back then. I was allowed into the office countless times almost like a little mascot…lol. It was actually Gene Simmons who took me back to the conference room to watch the beta/video of KIDS ARE PEOPLE TOO back in 1980. The Secretary told the story to Gene about my missing the show due to being in the Hospital, so he set me up in front of a video player and I watched the whole thing while he was talking with Bill Aucoin. I could not believe I was sitting there staring at those awesome marionettes that Bill had made for the band that only two years ago I had been looking at them in CREEM magazine. Gene was super nice to have done that for me...I'll never forget it. Everyone was always happy and a lot of joking around. They would give me white label copies of the upcoming Kiss albums with the promise I told nobody that I had one...starting with Double Platinum on. I also remember being invited to see them at Madison Square garden by one of the girls from the press office and I had the best time. The other thing I remember was the chaos that was going on in the office when KISS was replacing Peter Criss…there were people everywhere, all the time. Running around doing all kinds of things, phones ringing off the hook and one day... Eric Carr was picked as the new KISS drummer. It was real hush hush , and I was invited to Eric's first show at The Palladium in NYC. It was one of the best KISS shows I ever saw.

RARE AUCTIONS
Rare auctions worth an extra mention this week:

A vintage weekly TV guide from 1978 that had Kiss on the cover! When the Kiss movie aired on TV in 1978 it was a huge happening that even some TV guides have put Kiss on the cover! This is one of them.

"Rock Stars" was a rare French Kiss magazine from 1979. It wa smore like a fold out poster magazine.

Aces old suitcase is being auctioned on eBay. In the auction it reads:

"This is a very rare item of KISS memorabilia. Up for auction is a suitcase that was owned by Ace Frehley and then given to John Harte, KISS bodyguard and head of security in the 70's and 80's. The same suitcase is sitting behind Ace in the Waring Abbott photo from April 24, 1974. It is signed by all four original KISS members in 1976 and even has the KISS logo hand drawn by Paul Stanley and the words "this belongs to" above Ace Frehley's signature."

NEW KISS "ELDER" PERIOD FOOTAGE SURFACES
Previously unreleased “outtake” footage from KISS’s ill-fated ‘Music From The Elder’ period has surfaced on YouTube. This is the first time in nearly 13 years that any new ‘Elder’ era master tapes have been discovered. The clip, which is dated January 5, 1982, features band members Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley (along with their then manager Bill Aucoin) talking about King Kong and former KISS road manager Sean Delaney as they prepare to tape a segment for a short-lived CBS-TV series.

Additionally, some professionally shot footage from KISS’s 1980 Unmasked stadium tour of Australia also appeared online today.

Both clips are being released to promote a continuing series of KISS auctions from eBay seller EliteWorks. Among this week’s 53 items: promotional only releases such as the sampler LP for Rock And Roll Over and Gimmie KISS; a 1990 greatest hits compilation. 1975 autographs from Ace and Peter, loads of promo CDs and 8 Tracks, a stage used Gene Simmons blood cup, and the mega-rare blue label 7” single for “C’mon And Love Me” are also up for grabs.

You can see the auctions here.

In 1981 Genes Axe was built by Kramer and sold as bass and also as a guitar in very limited quantity. They all came handsigned and numbered by Gene himself. It says limited to 1.000, but in fact probably less than 1.000 were actually made and sold. The 1981 Kramer Axe edition is already a rare collectible, but the guitar (not bass) is extremely rare. DOUG KATSAROS
(from rockpages.gr)
We continue our KISS special feature with the 25th interview of a KISS-related figure. This week, Doug Katsaros, keyboardist and collaborator on Paul Stanley’s 1978 solo album takes us back in time...approximately 30 years! Here’s an excerpt:

Rockpages.gr:
How was Paul Stanley as a person and what's the one thing that stands out in your memory about him?

Doug Katsaros:
Paul is a handsome funny intelligent man with a real sense of who he is in the world. He is kind and considerate and gentle and talented - if I were a girl I would have been all over him. I remember being at a dinner in Beverly Hills with Paul, Peppy, a photographer named Barry Levine and myself. Dinner was over, and it was time for dessert. Paul wanted a cheesecake. Barry reminded him of the next day's photo shoot and told him he couldn't have any cheesecake. Paul insisted that he could handle a cheesecake. Barry was adamant against it. They argued, and eventually Paul relented. When the waiter came over, Paul quietly ordered a tea. Then Barry ordered a cheese cake. When the waiter brought the cheesecake over, Barry looked at it tauntingly, adoringly, and just as he was about to pick it up with his fork, Paul reached across the table and smashed it with his fist. Barry promptly ordered another slice, and on they went through the entire cheesecake in that fashion. Classic!

KISS TAKE FAN-ROUTED TOUR
(from Márcio Augusto kissarmy.com.br)
Fan Votes at Eventful to Determine U.S. and Canadian Cities Where
Legendary Rockers KISS Will Perform on 2009 Tour

Sao Paulo, Brazil (April 6, 2009) - KISS is celebrating 35 years of rockin' the world like no other band has ever done before. The legendary band, currently touring soccer stadiums of South America, announced from Brazil today that their upcoming U.S. and Canadian tour will be the world's first to put fans in charge of where their favorite artist plays. By partnering with Eventful, the leading social media company for events, fans will "Demand" where KISS will perform on their latest trek across the top-voted North American markets beginning this September. No matter where the fans say--from stadiums to cornfields--if there are enough votes, KISS will be there! And in order to keep the competition fair for smaller cities, final site selection will weigh population size versus total votes.

Today at the zero hour of exactly 3:00 PM EDT, an official video announcement by the band's Paul Stanley, Eric Singer, Tommy Thayer and Gene Simmons (see video at www.KISSonline.com) kicks off this first-ever promotion. Immediately following the video's debut run, fans across the U.S. and Canada can cast their votes at www.eventful.com/KISS to have their town included on the KISS 2009 North American tour. Fans will be able to vote, and check the tally of what cities are in the lead, 24/7 across the Web at the previous sites; as well as on KISS' MySpace and Facebook, Ticketmaster's KISS page, VH1Classic.com, and many more.

Even after garnering more than 30 gold and platinum records and in excess of 90 million albums sold worldwide, KISS continues to prove the band makes the fans their #1 priority.

"KISS has never followed the rules--we have always broken them. KISS has never listened to critics-we have always listened only to the fans," said Gene Simmons. "It's time to give back to the fans with bigger shows and longer set lists. And for the first time anywhere, we want our fans to tell us where they want us, and when."

Said Paul Stanley, "No band has ever given their fans the power to decide what cities they play, and no fans deserve it more than ours. We're leaving the next U.S. and Canadian tour up to the Army. When they stand up, they will be counted!"

Just for voting for their town, all KISS fans will have the opportunity to purchase pre-sale tickets prior to the general on-sale. In addition to joining in on the major campaigns launched by rock radio in each city, fans are also incentivized to create their own viral videos online, motivating their fellow residents to participate in casting votes for a KISS show in their city. City-specific "best-of" compilation reels of these videos will be shown on jumbo screens at venues before each concert.

On this upcoming tour, fans will be treated to a set of some of rock's greatest hits, including "Rock and Roll All Nite," "I Was Made for Lovin' You," "Detroit Rock City," "God Gave Rock & Roll to You" and "Shout It Out Loud," among many others. The band is currently recording its first new studio album in 11 years (produced by Paul Stanley).

DID YOU KNOW...
... that in 1988 the record company has released a new Japanese only compilation CD named "Chikara" when Kiss toured Japan? It is a rare collectors item these days.

... that in 1990 a Promo LP named "First Kiss... last licks" was released? It was never available in the stores.

BIG KISS FOR RAMA
(from torontosun.com)
You wanted the best, you got the best!

Sun Media has learned before today's official announcement that veteran rockers KISS will visit Casino Rama's 5,000-seat Entertainment Centre on July 20-21. Tix, $140 and $185, go on sale April 14 at the Casino Rama box office, TicketMaster, by calling 416-870-8000 and online at casinorama.com. Exclusive advanced ticket purchase for Players Passport club members go on sale April 12 at the Casino Rama box office.

The casino says concertgoers are welcome to wear costume makeup in the Entertainment Centre, but it must be removed before entering the gaming floor and a cleaning station will be set up.

KISS bassist Gene Simmons has been a frequent visitor to Ontario in the past few months after relaunching Simmons Records with Universal Music Canada and Belinda Stronach.

Last month at Canadian Music Week, where he was the keynote speaker, he said KISS was recording its first studio album in a decade, with singer Paul Stanley producing.

"It's going to be a classic '70s rock 'n' roll vibe, meat-and-potatoes kind of thing," Simmons told reporters about the sound of the new songs.

"Sometimes you just want to go out and have a meat-and-potatoes thing, forget the French dressing. Titles like Rock to the Core, the obvious things. No secret to life. No political messaging, nothing like that."

SOUTH AMERICA TOUR UPDATE
(from Kissonline)
TOMMY CHECKS IN!

Travel day to South America

We arrived on the KISS private jet into beautiful Santiago, Chile this (Thursday) morning. The trip from Los Angeles to Chile usually takes some extra time because there are no commercial non-stop flights to Santiago. Our plan was to fly commercial to Miami and meet our own jet there for the flight straight down to Santiago.

We'd been rehearsing for the tour all week in LA so we met at the American terminal at LAX Wednesday morning to catch our flight to Miami. Paul and I were there on time, but Gene had written his car pick-up time down wrong and wasn't going to make the flight, so the tour already hit a bump! I was surprised because that kind of stuff never happens with Gene. Eric showed up late, but he was still on time to make the flight.

Gene ended up taking a Lan Chile flight with our assistant road manager to Santiago via Lima. About four hours later, Paul, Eric, myself, Doc McGhee, Danny Francis (KISS security) and Mike our tour manager landed in Miami and were escorted to the private aviation terminal as they prepped the KISS jet with dinner, drinks and amenities for the flight south to Santiago.

A great dinner followed our 10:30 PM departure from Miami for a 2 hour 45 minute flight to Panama City, where we had a short, 20-minute refueling stop. In the air again, we all hunkered down for six hours of solid sleep as we jetted south to Santiago. Just at daybreak, we touched down into the Santiago sunshine. Today we're taking it easy because tomorrow (Friday) we start the South American leg of the KISS Alive/35 World tour at the sold-out Estadio Municipal de la Florida Stadium in Santiago, Chile.
